Default Want and even tighter belt on your vortech/supercharger setup?

Its been a while and my car has been a garage queen but I've finally gotten back to working on the car and fighting the good fight against...belt slip! Those of you guys running Vortech kits with bigger blowers know my pain.

With my big blower YSi setup (the older heavier non billet impeller) and a 34/28 cog setup on a 2.75 pulley I've had good days and bad days with belt slip; OldManZ's Timrod helps and tightening your belts to the limit helps too, but some days the 6 ribs just aren't enough even at maximum tightening with the stock belt adjuster, so I've been experimenting getting one sized smaller belt belt and breaking it in/stretching it until I can just get it over the pulleys, but its a pain in the butt to do.

So I decided to modify the belt adjuster on the VQ35DE so it can easily take a smaller belt, that way I don't have to break in and stretch the smaller belt:

Typical VQ35DE belt adjuster:

With a bit of grinding you can make the maximum loosening adjustment point lower, allowing you to put smaller belts you can tighten more:

So there you have it, pretty simple and easy to do; hopefully at my next tune I'll be able to maximize the YSi properly and get back into the upper 25+ psi range; next thing is maybe switch to the lighter billet YSi impeller, but after that I'm not sure what else I want to do really. It's already got way more power than I can handle at my age lol.

Oh...and do you yourself a favor and use a tungsten carbide bit if you use a dremel grinder...I didn’t have one and used an aluminum oxide bit...took way longer than it should have...

Well you could go to a 34/27, 2.87 Serp that is very close blower speed, but less slip. you do have to machine the nose of the pulley.

this would help.

I'm surprised you are only getting 25psi with you set up. you must have a fair amount of belt slip.

There's a 27 cog vortech pulley out there? That would be useful...

The YSi cast impeller is pretty heavy...I'm sure with the YSi B Billet impeller it will have much less belt slip...

Yes! 27 Tooth

you do have to machine the nose of the pulley.

That setup looks sweet; can't wait to see the results...is that a YSi-B?
