Hey, I am just trying to understand what all the boost guys are doing to protect their intercoolers from road debris.
From my point of view, it's really a two sided coin. If you add a grille, you may be protecting it more, but you are also obstructing the air flow.
Comments or thoughts?
If you are using a grille or some other form of protection for your Z, what did you go with? Do you have any pics?
Thanks!

I was thinking of adding one of these to the back of my stock grille. I am trying to look as stock as possible.

I like the black race style
If I add this, I would be concerned about air-flow.

Personally, I like the open face look...sans grill. I mean...most car's stock radiators are exposed to some degree. I think it would take a giant impact to damage it. Occasionally, the fins will get a little dinged and bugged up...but that's it. Common guys...show off the intercooler!!
I was thinking of using metal window screen. It will allow max airlow, won't hide the intercooler and should protect very nicely. It'll probably look pretty nasty after a couple thousand miles (dead bugs), but a couple shots with a high pressure water hose should fix that.
This one was done for Kenny from SC. I did his gauge pods too. The grill is purchased in 5' x 10' sheets from the manufacturer. It's then cut to fit the opening exactly. Then it's bent to shape.
The bumber is stock. The opening needs to be cut very carefully. One slip and the bumper is ruined.
How the grill is attached, that's a shop secret. I don't use any screws or hardware, but it's strong and will never come off. I hope Kenny can tell everyone how good it looks when he gets it. I just overnighted the bumper to him this afternoon.
I did this to my RX7 and it kept my I/C clean and dentless for as long as I had it. If you have some hand skills, you can do it.
