I got my JWT clutch/flywheel setup for about $750 from Performance Nissan. I think the clutch setup is a stage 2. Also Yancy, you may want to read the article on the TT G35C that blew its engine when boosted to 400hp. They said that the rods melted. I am also going to upgrade my pistons and rods and try and boost up to 400hp. After I read this article I made that the next priority on my list of engine mods before I do anything else. Just a thought

Default ACT CLUTCHES

HD00 - $511.20 - For normal street driving
SIX-PUCK - $495.00 - Not a clutch you would want to drive in traffic everyday, but incredibly reliable for high-torque/high-horsepower scenarios.

We are working with ACT to have these clutches available at the beginning of April. ACT is one of the premier clutch manufacturers in the industry.

Regards,

AC

I haven't heard of the G35 TT melting its rods. Scary thought though. Can you post a link to the article? I intended to build the motor, but maybe I should do it sooner rather than later. It just pisses me off that Nissan could not build and produce a limited TT version of the Z.

If they 'melted' a rod that would be due to poor tuning. If your making a lot of power the rod could snap, but actually melting is from something other than simply making too much power.

I plan on rebuilding next winter when I can't drive the car.

Its in the DSPORT Magazine with Francine Dee on the cover. There is a green honda that sh eis posing in front of. They were giving the pros and cons on the g35c engine and that was one of the cons. They stated that if you are going to go to that level hp to replace your rods with more stronger ones. I dont have the link to dsport magazine.

I know we have one good customer who had the JWT in his car (with flywheel), and it did not last more than a few opasses at the strip (car is ultra NA power with NOS). Disk fused itself to his flywheel

The Exedy carbon is a nice unit- not what I would use in an Fi car as its only a single disk clutch (like the OS Giken's you guys were using).

Just had Clutchmasters Stage 4 clutch and flywheel installed last week. I'm waiting on the 500 mile break in period before I "beat it" a little bit to see how it is. I'll keep you updated.

CM Makes some nice stuff. They rebuild stock clutches with high performance friction materials / springs / etc. Does the clutch grab very sharp, or can a slip it a little?

It just grabs, little room for slipping. I'm in a little bit of a dilema again. Clutchmasters Stage 4 clutch and single piece flywheel (like JWT, Nismo etc etc). The kit came with a new throw out bearing. Well, when I got home Friday night, I noticed a "rattle" noise at idle. Sorta sounds like two pieces of metal banging each other. The sounds goes away when I push in the clutch. I ran into a guy over the weekend that has a bad *** grey turbo eclipse that has a lot of work done. Anyway, he heard it and immediately said that it was a bad throw out bearing making the noise. A few other people said the same thing when hearing it. Since I paid $900 for install of the clutch and new wastegate gasgets to Nissan on Gratiot, I took the car there today to let them hear it for diagnosis. 3 machanics plus the master machanic there said bad throw out bearing. So I call Clutchmasters to talk to Jose (the guy that sold me the kit) to let him know what's going on. He basically says that Nissan installed it wrong and "left too much play" around the throw out bearing and that it couldn't be the throw out bearing that is making the noise. Then he said it was the flywheel, then he said it might be the transmission. Nissan techs basically laughed at all of that. Well, to make a long story short, he is sending a new throw out bearing, but it looks like if the throw out bearing was the problem I get stuck paying for installation twice. Any ideas?

that noise appears to be normal for this car. both of my trannys have had it with my oem and new jwt clutch/fly. i dont think its a bad throwout bearing.

the trans in my 350z made all kinds of screwy *** sounds... even after they replaced it when 5th gear decided to take a hike. I cant describe them since its been since November since it was last driven.

a bad TOB is a pretty common sound and thats why so many people are telling you thats what it is... we have all heard it. Its a common problem, and its probably whats wrong if so many people are telling you that.

sucks man... sorry to hear. a reputable tuner shop might be able to do the job for you for less than $900.... thats pretty steep for changing a clutch...

Oh... I think I will probably be ordering an ATS clutch this week since I have an account with them and the last stuff we got from them was very nice.

Hopefully wont take too long to get... I am not sure how much power the stock clutch will hold... I have a customer that has been running around 370rwhp in his Z that we put a vortech on and he hasnt reported and clutch problems yet... then again I think he treats his car pretty nice... I dont do that.
