another SC vs. TT decision question......
By reading the posts on this forum, it seems that the Vortech SC has a lot more issues with proper software tuning than the Greddy TT kit. Is this true, or is it only the case when you are trying to push for more boost than the Vortech "factory" specs? One would think that Vortech would include the appropriate primary ECU mods or piggyback computer to do the job right from the start. I'm trying to decide between the two, but really don't want to make endless trips back to my tuner to get the thing working properly. I'm not looking to build a drag monster. 370-400 crank hp will be sufficient. I tuned my previous car, an Audi S4 from 250 to 420 crank hp, and it was relatively easy. If you got all the appropriate parts together, everything worked. The programming was all neatly done by the turbo upgrade kit manufacturers. Do the Z tuners still need a little more time and experience with this car? Any advice appreciated.

Well,
welcome first of all. The Greddy's have had longer to play and tweak. Vortech is the new kid on the block. When the dust settles tuning won't even be a big debacle for either.
ATI started the same way and now they work fine after LOTS of trial and error and technical notices etc etc.
Vortech's will get it together just like Greddy just a matter of time for more people to post their experiences of what works and what doesn't works like the other kits.

A LOT of information has been posted about how to tune the SS box on the Vortech kit. I personally don't think loading someone else's custom program into your SS box and driving off is a very good idea--but you can certainly use it as a guideline.

Sounds like the usual scenario when tuning a relatively new car. I think with the Audi, the turbo upgrade packages weren't even really offered until about two years after the cars came to the U.S. and then there were some initial problems as well. I'll give it a little more time. Since I live in the Northeast, I won't be driving my car in the winter months, so I think I'll wait until December or so, then do a full-tilt install. It'll give me just the amount of time I think I need to let all the bugs get worked out. With, my previous cars, the Audi, and before that, a Honda Prelude, I was always one of the first to go with a newly offered big power upgrade, and I lived through all the growing pains associated with that decision. I think I'll wait just a little bit this time. Thanks!!!
If you'd like, shoot me an e-mail MikeM@alteredatmosphere.com with a good contact number or give us a call 301.330.8835. We've installed around 18 forced induction kits on 350Z/G35 now and have tuned several others our customers installed. I'd be more than happy to share my experiences.

To answer the orginal question, it is safe to say that the Greddy TT makes a bit more power and torque than the Vortech with out-of-the-box tuning. So if you just want to install something and go, the Greddy kit is a better choice. The Greddys are making consistent 350wrhp with just exhuast and high flow cats at 5.5psi.
That being said, BOTH kits can make equal amounts of HP with power tuning. Both can top 400whp with proper tuning.
