gauges
This might be a dumb questions, but what should I look for when selecting gauges for my vortech. Im planning on getting boost and A/F. Any others I should consider? What are the differences between brands. All I know is that I want one with memory for peak, etc.
Gauges are definately personal preference. Any good electronic gauges will be fine. Electronic gauges use an electrical wire to send the signal back to the gauge, rather than relying on a vaccum line that could potential leak or get kinked somewhere, hence, decreasing its accuracy. Defi, HKS, APEXi, Greddy all make good stuff...see which ones your physically like better...they all look a little bit different. Also determine whether you want PSI or BAR readings. If you decide on PSI, you're universe of options DRAMATICALLY decreases. There is a much better selection of BAR gauges.
why does everyone hate on non-wideband a/f, even a regular a/f gauge will let you know your running lean it just wont be able to tell you how lean. widebands are only good for tuning, and even then they are not as accurate as the ones on the dyno. personally if you really want to know when your in the danger zone youll need an egt with that a/f too. though if you tune it right and leave the settings the same all you need is a boost gauge.
I am going with a wideban A/F and a dual gauge...fuel pr....and boost . I put them both in the cubby where the navigation goes , so I can close the lid and no one knows I have any thing in the car

Why not? The AEM uses a very good quality Bosche O2 sensor and accurately measures between 11:1 and 17:1 within .1 accuracy. How much more accuracy do you want it? I mount mine before the cats, so I should be getting the most accurate reading possible...not sure why a dyno wideband would be more accurate.
And with datalogging capabilty availible with the Profec, i dont see any issues....

the ones on dynos are different, with a wideband o2 the only difference is one additional pin on your o2 sensor, thats it! the dyno types use a wideband o2 but the sensor readout is different than an in car a/f.
i agree they probably are accurate to .1 but i wonder what the margin of error is o a standard, like .25 or so id guess, my point is that its only going to point out how lean you are, any gauge can tell you that your lean though by egt, or basic a/f so why waste your money on a wideband when your car will be tuned most likely on a dyno anyways? to me its just not worth the $$$
