Default Vortech problems owners beware

Well I have finally had it with the vortech kit. I've had the kit since the begenning of December and have about 2300 miles on it. It has been to vortech 3 times to fix problems. First problem pulley rubs the rib on the hood. They said it was because the belt was loose. So they tightened it and it still rubs. Second was I had pinging around 5000 to 5500 rpm. Nothing was done so I asked for R4 software and fixed it myself. Next was I noticed that my ac pulley is all shiny and has been rubbing the up tube from the intercooler. Called vortech and they said to loosen up the clamps and reposition the tube. So today I put car up on jack stands so I could get to intercooler and loosen clamps. Well this is were the real problems start. First the up tube has been rubbing on the other side even worse than were the pulley was hitting it. It is almost wore through. So I took off the pipe that goes from the intercooler to the up tube so I can see what its going to take to fix the problem. Well I am going to have to go to my friends shop and custom fit it by cutting and welding it. Even after doing this it still looks like it is going to rub the fender up higher. Looks like I'm going to have to make the tube out of oval tubing so it will clear. Won't know until I first fix the other problem. Next I noticed that the intercooler is only mounted on the passenger side. If you push up on the bottom it is sagging down. So when I fix the tube I will weld on another mount to support it from both sides. Next is the worst problem of all. When you look at picture you will see. The fuel pump has this piece of hose that connects the pump to high pressure fuel line. Well this piece of hose looks like heater hose or maybe fuel hose, but it is not high pressure hose. It is cracked and swollen. Pretty scary. Well if I could take the kit back, I would. I like the power but I don't need all the problems that are happening. I wonder whats next. So I would take a close look at things to make sure nothing is rubbing and check the pump hose for sure.

who installed your kit? Comptech installed mine and i have zero parts rubbing and the hood shuts perfect, actually when you look at my install you would say Vortech made precise measurements in there kit as it fits in tight quarters PERFECT, no room for error........ I will check the fuel pump hose, but i am sure comptech would have let me know if it wasnt high pressure fuel line. Sorry to hear you are having so many problems, I must say I love my kit.

you better look closer. the tube that comes up from intercooler to the mass air senser has to rub some were. there is not enough room for the tube. if you take off the cover under the front and look from the bottom up you'll see what i'm saying. it looks fine from the top its from the bottom i see all the problems. there is just not enough room. extreme automotive did the install. there is nothing wrong with install. i took it apart today a saw the problems myself. i will fix problems on thurday and post pics of fix. you have to remember the motor moves.

I don't agree. I've now had my Vortech in for a month and have had no rubbing issues in the areas you describe. There was one with the custom strut bar, but that was because the kit is designed for the stock strut bar, not a custom one so I cannot fault Vortech for that. Everything else has plenty of clearance.

Sorry to hear you are having problems, but hopefully they are things that you can make minor adjustments on and clear up.

Sorry about your issues, but if you look at this pic:

You can see this was NOT something Vortech included in the kit, but something your installer HACKED out of a spare piece of tubing laying around by the mutilated looking cut.

Your installer needs to be blamed on that piece AT LEAST. No way Vortech did that.

WRONG..

actually that piece DOES come with the vortech, i just installed mine a few weeks ago, its there as a size reducer because the fuel line hose is much smaller than the adapter on the pump, the piece looked like it was high pressure tubing because it has fiber reinforcement, so it should be adequate. sorry to hear about yout problems.

Was it that length?

I'm not buying that Vortech would butcher cut a hose like that. Anybody that cuts hose regularly has a decent set of hose cutters that makes a clean cut. That just looks ghetto.

The short piece of fuel line does not look like high psi fuel injection line. High psi line should have metal braid internally not cloth braid as it appears. Make a reducer out of barbed brass fittings and proper line. What you show is a hack.

Does any one know if stainless steel lines would alleviate this problem of bulging lines.......seem you might want to shell out a few more dollars on ss lines ........just to have peace of mind

Holy crap..that fuel line would scare the **** out of me. When I do finally get the Vortech kit I'm gonna ask the shop to replace any fuel/oil lines that are not already steel braided with steel braided line. FYI there is a company called Crown here in Socal that makes SS line and coats them over with somekind of clear plastic material to perserve theier life. All of their lines are DOT approved with the numbers on the hose. I had their brake lines on my Spec. They do custom lines to order as well. Whipped up a set of lines for my buddies Del Sol in like 4 days. www.mossyperformance.com has pics of my break lines and their construction of the lines. I'd SERIOSULY consider them for AT LEAST your fuel and oil lines.

Default Fuel lines

Just becaus there is no SS braid on the outside doesn't mean they are'nt high psi burst resistant hoses. External braiding is more of a cosmetic consideration. The down side of exterior braiding is that if not carefully restrianed thay can abraid adjacent lines via rubbing. From what I can see , the other fuel lines provided by Vortech are of the high psi type (internal braid) ; it's just that little , "adapter piece "appears to not be so.
