Greddy Overboosting

Greddy Overboosting
Forgive my ignorance, but why is my car overboosting?
I set the E01 boost controller into automatic mode with 5PSI and my E01 hits 6.4PSI at times.
So I set the E01 to manual mode with 20 and I overboost to 7 PSI....great.
What am I doing wrong? What causes the kit to overboost like this?
Thanks,
Clueless

For 5 psi just leave the e-01 off. You should hit 5.5 psi. I have seen the boot spike to 6 psi if i try to control the boost level with the throttle, that's not good. Just got WOT and you will get 5.4-5.5 psi.

Using the manual mode is pretty scary, becuase you will boost different amounts based on gear, load, etc... I advise you not to use it.
In the auto mode. The 6.4 you are seeing is just a spike...watch your gauge and you'll see the spike, and then the Profec will take the boost down to the set level. You just need to play with the gain a bit to tighten it up. For instance, I have my boost set a 7psi, and 90% of the time, I hit that level right on, but on occasion, I'll get a momentary spike to 7.3psi, but then it drops right back down to 7psi.
The question is....the kit is boosting 5psi stock, so why are you even using the Profec boost control? If you want 5psi, just leave the boost off. Also, keep in mind, it is very challenging for any boost controller to just add 1psi to the stock wastegate...this leaves little margin for error. Boost controllers work best when taking the boost up 2 or more PSI over stock, so that solonoid has time to work correctly. Hope that helps!

"Just a spike" ??
dang.. from 5.5 to 6.4 isnt that assuring when you have fuel settings calculated for 5.5..

Bini....like I said...the controller cant set boost for 5psi when the wastegate is set at 5psi. boost controllers can only increase boost...not decrease. So the controller is still opening up slightly for some reason. Dont worry about it......its not designed to do what you are describing.
Just turn the boost to "off" and you'll be fine. Hope that helps buddy! If you are boosting 4.8psi without a controller, there is no controller on the planet that can stablize at 5.0psi....its just not that sensative.

^ True, You can't expect the unit to control the boost accurately to a tenth of psi. That's a very small measurement. One tenth of a psi is about a hundredth of a volt on the electronic pressure sensor, electronics tend to vary that much naturally anyways.
