There are guys on the west coast running low 12's with ATI prochagers...

I'm sure those 19 inch rims, high elevation, bad gas etc... aren't helping you With that in mind there is no question your car is capable of hitting 12 sec times.

Ches:

Are you still running the stock clutch. If so that also could be hurting your times. Spaz

The main problem is traction. Even in my almost stock form, I spun the tires thru 3rd...OOooops .

My best time and 60' happened on the same trip down the track. And it was my 4th run ever on a drag strip.

With practice you will get better. You better, because I want the PE TT kit as well.

Steve, my friend

Trust me , this track is the worst I have ever seen. The elevation, our cat-**** gasoline, and the fact that traction on Cheston's car was a problem.... 13.6 is VERY good.

When I do street runs at sea level with my Gtech, I get about 13.9-14.1. At LACR, with the same g-tech (confirmed by teh actual track time) I did not get better than 15.2. That track has a horrible launch area and very high elevation. I spin the tires out of control (granted they are 235's) without brake torquing - it's horrible. DOn't forget the gas, which I would say is good for at least 15 hp at these PSI levels as it will allow you to advance timing about 2-3 degrees.

Hey, I'm not denigrating his time--I grew up at 5000 ft altitude so I'm familiar with the concept--I was just lamenting the fact that I haven't gotten into the 12s yet. Do you know how many people ask me how fast this car is and then look disappointed when I say 13.2?!

I know what you mean Steve. I didn't mean you were. Just wante dto let you know how freaking horrible that track is. I was making horrible times there... I can say with a lot of certainty that Ches' car is a nearly a full second faster at sea level.... as was the case with every car that was out there that day...

Good times Cheston,

I would drop the rear pressure to about 26 but the tire has to be cold when you do this for it to be accurate.

Skidazzle....how come you got the best start on the hardest setting in the rear? I thought the idea was to transfer as much weight as possible to the back so that you can get the best traction and adhesion of the tire to the asphalt. Can you explain?

is that textbook launch strategy? Or just specific to our Z. I am a total newbie when it comes to drag racing...I could use all the help I can get!

Thanks Michael.

I have a friend with an integra running 470 HP to the wheel running low 13's yet with 350 WHP he run 11.9.

1. It's hard to launch and shift with that much power.
2. It takes a lot of experience.

zimbo, 13.2 at 8psi on a Sedan doesn't sound terriable.

I just got back form the drag strip tongiht and im proud to say i finally hit the 12's, not by much though.

Houston Raceway Park should be pretty much sea level or maybe 50 foot. It was like high 70's tonight with alot of sun and mid day heat.

R/T .293
60' 2.007
330 5.579
1/8 8.457
MPH 87.38
1000 10.925
1/4 12.981
MPH 109.63

I took the advice of some board members here (12secZ) and dropped my rear tire psi to around 22 warm. Yea me!

Oh yea, im pretty much stock except for the ATI kit. This was my second time at the strip. Last week was my first and i had a best of 13.2 at 109. So it all just takes a lil practise.

Enron, how much boost? Stock tires? The stock tires suuuuck.

Chebosto you just need to practice man. You should be able to hit a 12 w/ a better 60'. Get some stickey tires and work on your launch. I was getting a consistant 1.8 60' without warming up or even cleaning off my tires.

All my runs at the track have been on 5.5 psi, running rich ~10:1, with stock exhaust. Basically just with the greddy kit bolted on. I actually trapped at 110 mph once! But the launch was really bad.

This pretty muc confirms that Cheston's mid-12's are all in the launch.

No at Sac Raceway 250 feet above sea level....lol. Even after he does his conversion my trap was still higher. Kinda cool if you ask me.
