Default Initial Vortech rwhp, as installed!

got some data back so far.......

background:::

Dynometer = Mustang brand, [[see below for CF]]

Installed as:::

vortech v-2 (sq) with stock pulley, crawford plenum, and 1°COOLER plugs

the rest of the car, performance - wise, is stocker (exhaust is 100% oem)

factors:::

Temp = 93.1°F outside right now, in the shade, with humidity (on the beaches) being about 52% (per my remote weather station setup)

Elevation above Sea Level = LESS than 30 feet, but moreso like 20 ft...

CF (for these numbers) =

driveline = 17%
mustang to DJ = 12%

numbers:::

out of the box = 304.7rwhp on the mustang dyno, withOUT tuning, or 356CrankHP
corrected to DJ® numbers = 341.3HP withOUT tuning, corrected, or 399.3CrankHP

we (the tuner, infiniti DS, and myself) are hoping to be able to see peak at about 10% above these original numbers (regardless of which series of numbers you believe) with corrected tuning, and some very good improvements thru-out the range as well (was told there are places where the initial SS settings are about 2-points off of ideal, for this area!)

so, somewhere near 370 (corrected to DJ stats) RWHP is the goal, keeping the oem pulleys and oem exhaust.....

for now.....

thoughts (good or bad), are appreciated

-eS

ps- the car has under 1200 miles, in total, with the blower install happening at 903 miles to be exact!

es,

Sounds good. I believe out of the box I got the same thing (with OEM exhaust) or very similar (339 corrected) on first run. So that looks on par with you. We then installed R/T cats and Stillen exhaust, and put on about 450 miles before dynoing again (had 1,700 miles on engine). We only made minor adjustments to the A/F to try and smooth it out, and I "think" timing was not touched from original Vortech settings. We wanted a very safe, conservative tune (for now..).

Good luck & welcome to the vortech club!

tomorrow i will have ALL the data (a/f and dyno sheets)

he spent ALOT of time on this car........

the r4 software gave a bit of a fit at hi-rpm's , but it turned out to be a setting in a drop-down menu that needs to be set apon EVERY initialization (will know more on this later too)

he told me that now the car reads 350.__ to the tires, per his dyno.....

and agreed, (already confirmed too) i will return to him for 'finetuning' once the exhaust system arrives.....

two more notes for today::

1) was told to the vette pulley (9.1lbs boost) is prolly too much for the internals of the motor, and fringing on the safety of the build, (so i will forgo it)...

2) a bigger volume oilpan is a good idea....... (need to research this better though)

so far (having not even driven or seen her in action, i am pleased with the final results (peak output increasing by 55 hp!!)

now, time to have a lil fun.... dontcha think??

custom tuning completed!!!

again, these are mustang numbers but................

365.1 RWHP and 319.2lb-ft TQ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

this tuning took place over two days, and netted a gain of 60.8hp and 48.6 tQ......

i will have the a/f numbers later (still) as he will have new software to give me the data at a later time (will be at their dyno shootout, and have plans to have the full exhaust on by then)

the car feels SOOO much more linear, and smoother, with the power seeming to occur MUCH sooner in the powerband!!

He went thru this thing cell-by-cell, and still left a lil safety built in above 5K (due to the hi comp. and hi temps, i guess)

if you are in the tampa/clearwater/sw florida area, i STRONGLY recommend::

SAM of

COASTAL CHASSIS DYNO
(813) 849-2423

please tell him scott (w/ the G35) sentya!

yippee!

Well that would put you over 400whp on a dynojet......Did he change the timing map any ? Do you have dyno chart to post ?

I don't think you can make that as a blanket statement. The only way you can know what numbers it will make on a DJ is to put the car on a DJ. Best to use the dyno... any dyno... to determine your net gain from any mods you do.

Nice numbers, tho, Esemes! How much were you pulling prior to the Vortech install? The difference is the number that really matters... how much did you gain?

Mine showed a net gain around 160rwhp over the same mods minus the tuned Vortech... sounds like you may in the 120-130 range... of course, I have full exhaust upgrades and cams over your mods so I should see a little more.

CONGRATS!

So very glad to see these results! Also very happy to have been involved with this project, and see it turn out so sweeeeeeet! Hopefully, all the stomach knots and nail-biting was worth it...

Sam came highly recommended to me via some friends with high-horsepower Cobras, and I really think he knows his tuning. As you get more seat time in it, we will fully know the ins-and-outs of the car, and I am confident you will have no issues(besides wanting MORE power )!

This project was very exciting. As I told you, being with Infiniti for 11 years and previously being a technician on these cars, it is so great to finally see Infiniti cars getting this type of attention and modification now. I hope you can now relax and enjoy the fruits of your labor, and have fun with the car. I also hope you give me a ring when you debut the car at a local car night or race session!

Thanks for being our first Vortech customer!

NICE numbers, Mcduck!! Now does the +160 hp gain include all your mods, or just the Vortech?

The more I hear about the Vortech, the better it sounds. Did you install yourself?

okay fellas.....

heres the two printouts i have..........

the one shows the vortech unit, as installed, withOUT tuning at all........ (still exceptional numbers!!) vs. hi temp max run (fantastic numbers)

the other shows a cooler motor (allowed to sit for awhile, but not artifical cooling induced)...... vs. high heated numbers............ TQ stays very close, but this shows the HP loss from heatsoak (and sitting on a dyno for hours and hours.....)

sorry for the poor images; i cannot get the scanner to fire up!!

***notice the CONSTANT torque values!!!***

***cooler is obviously better..... for now, im sticking to these numbers***

thanks to all for the compliments.....

its you guys that gave me the ammo to even get up the courage to do this project........

much thanks!!

Esemes...
Nice engine cover upgrade, too! I've noticed in just driving around town how much happier my Vortech is if the temp is below 85 degrees. Above that, I seem to have a big drop off in power from the heat.

Chris,
I was hitting 260-ish with cams, full exhaust upgrades, pulleys, et al. prior to the Vortech addition. Needless to say, i was a little disappointed with the numbers I had hit for all the work I had done. It paid off in the end, tho. From 260rwhp, I added only the Vortech kit. With tuning, we have hit a max (so far) of 425rwhp. There's probably room to tune another 10-15rwhp out of it, but I'm happy with where it is now. No need to push my luck. So, the short answer is the Vortech alone added around 160rwhp, but the gains were a cumulative effect with the prior mods.

Cosentino Hi-Lines in Charlotte did my install. Very clean & professional install.

Congrats on that, Mcduck!! That is VERY impressive. I have been trying to decide between Vortech SC or Greddy TT for a while. I am leaning toward the Vortech mainly due to cost. It's cheaper for the kit itself, plus I can install it myself (I think ). I have also heard that the stock internals of the engine are happier with an SC over a TT, but it sounds like you are reaching the same hp as someone with a TT, so perhaps that's not necessarily true? How much was it to tune your setup once it was installed? I'm hoping that if I get a Vortech and install it myself, I won't get killed on the tuning cost?

the rw torque is where the tt will show its advantage. I was waiting for the jwt tt but now i am thinking about vortech again.

es - did you keep the stock g front bumper or get something else?
