Default Forged stronger than cast by X%

This is a tuff one...

Does anyone know how much stronger, % wise, is a forged con rod is over a stock cast con rod? Or any forged part over cast?

A ruff estimate +/- 10% is acceptable.

its not quantifiable like that. there are other properties like heat that forged also has an advantage over cast. and different manufacturers may use different quality of materials and processing so no two will be exactly the same.

I know it doesnt work exactly like that and that there are many other factors but i'm going to try to keep it simple, making large assumptions here and there.

Ive been looking at other techniques like shot peening and cryo treatment and they have been able to qualify the improvements in % because they've done the tests. The results vary metal to metal but if I can find results from the same metals then we should be able to draw some ruff conclusions. I just need to find a manufacturer of forged parts who has done the tests and has the info.

Ive sent an email to a few and we'll see what they say.

some cast methods can be almost as strong as forged. And shotpeening and other techniques and improve strength as well. Compared to our stock Nissan Rods, it is safe to say that quality forged units are at least twice as strong.

Thats my best guess.

I would agree with that.

Stock rods can handle ~500flyhp and I would say forged could handle at least ~1000flyhp so they must be at least double the strength.

Er.. Would you agree that from 500crankHP to 1000crankHP
is perhaps a force more than two times?

If strength is related to the amount of force.. Say expodential -
the amount of force is - say four times greater at 1000 than at 500. Then perhaps the strength of the rod would be some number greater than four time the stock part.

Cheers Amy -

Charles?

Thats a good point... double the power doesnt mean double the force...
