Unhappy I have another vortech question

My installer said, that when im ready to get the vortech installed to bring oil and Coolant. I understand oil, but why Coolant.

Also should i buy new spark plugs if my car only has 1700 miles on it?

Thanks,

Jordan

well, it is good to bring new oil if you are installing the new vortech, but as for coolant, i dont know why you would need it. I just installed my vortech last wednesday and put new 15W-50 oil in it. Its made for supercharged and turbo cars. As for the spark plugs, you only need new ones if you are at about 20,000 miles. Have fun with the new toy! i sure am....remember to get it tuned for that extra 30-50 hp.....

You should bring your tuner some rocks for his crack pipe as well.

because you don't need to change your coolant when installing a supercharger and tuning the car will not void your warranty. Tuning it will actually make it run safer because it would be a custom tune and not some generic tune.

The coolant hose is only in the way when installing the oil-tap adaptor. THe simple solution is to bend the rubber hose out of the way, not to drain the entire system and remove the hose. I have installed two of these kits already on my friends cars and you do not need to drain the coolant.

You might as well replace the plugs with one step colder iridiums.

You DEFINITELY need a custom tune, but I have come to believe that paying someone else to program your R4 software is a waste of money. It's also extremely risky. How many tuners out there have forgotten (or simply didn't know) to set the aux pump to come on correctly when creating a new customer file??!

I've compared the "custom" tune I paid $500 for with the stock tune and I gotta say that with what I know now it was a ripoff. Find a dyno operator you trust and do the R4 tuning yourself is my vote. No way I'd trust anyone else.

zim is right about finding a correct tuner....

let me add this, i searched high and low for a tuner weeks before i got the vortech (and after reading/learning here that the oem kit is waay too rich, for any config. of bolt-on mods to utilize)...

i must sya that my tuner is a very highly recommended tuner, and a veteran of vortech cars... (builds em too)....

i wanna add that , if you can, find a dyno with load control on it, so as to map with accordance to a tru(er) sense of real-world load/stress on the motor... any modernday Mustang brand dyno will do this (also make sure the tuner knows the weight of your car (± fuel load) and enters the correct size of the wheels too.....

Is it possible for someone with no tuning experience (me) to tune a Vortech with the R4 software (I'm getting a Vortech SC install in February)? Is some special hardware needed to do this in addition to the software? What does the tuning system cost? How did you know exactly how to do a correct tune? Did someone teach you or is it explained in an instruction book?
