Default Rods And Pistons...Choices?

Since many of us are looking at building up our engine, I thought it might be nice to discuss the options available at this point in time. Here are couple to start off with...Please feel free to add any other parts of the engine you think should be upgraded, IE head studs, springs, valves etc. Also lets discuss who can get these parts at the best price.

RODS:
Pauter
Crower
Nismo

PISTONS:
Sgp
Arias
Nismo
Espirit

CAMS:
Jwt
Nismo
Impul

Finding higher and lower comp pistons is easy to find but who makes forged stock compression pistons at a reasonable price?

many companies will make the pistons how you want it. you tell them the shape and comp ratio and they make it.

head studs might be nice, head gasket as well

OK, I just got off the phone with Arias and they can do a custom set at stock compression (if anyone else is interested). It is considered custom and will take 4-6weeks and runs about $880 for the set with everything included.

I always thought the pistons where made fractionally larger so the cylinder blocks have to be machined to fit those specific 6 pistons.

And I believe if you asked the piston manf the compression ratio you desired, they can custom make it for you and maybe even the type of domed head on the piston.

whosdady,

Are these custom stock compression pistons forged. That seems much less than the other forged pistons I have heard of. They are normally around $1,100 to $1,200. Why do you think custom pistons are less expensive.

I am very interested in forged stock compression pistons or perhaps 9.5:1 pistons.

their cheaper bc their not jdm yo! your paying for the name a lot of the time. some of the jdm cos even use american made pistons (nismo usa) and market them as their own.

Yes these are custom stock comp forged pistons. The custom are more expensive at $880 opposed to $750 for off the self.

PoWeRtRiP,

I don't know much about fabricating pistons, but is there anyway to determine if a custom piston is of the same strengh and quality as the more expensive branded pistons?

whosdady,

Do you have a link to a site that is selling forged pistons for $750. That is a lot lower than others I have heard of.

your engine builder should be able to measure the tolerances, and im sure the individual shops would tell you what type of material they make the pistons out of and what it is rated to. almost all of the big power supras, dsms, and hondas use domestic made pistons (eagle, pauter, arias) when was the last time you heard about someone actually buying the big money internals from japan.

What I'd like is to see various packages that have everything I need in the engine to safely run at various HP levels. For example, there might be the following:

The 450 Kit: Includes forged rods, forged pistons at 9.5:1 or stock compression; optionally includes cams. Includes whatever other gaskets or thingamabobs needed to run @ 450 rwhp.

The 500 Kit: Includes forged rods, pistons at 8.5:1, heads, etc. Whatever needed to be @ 500 rwhp.

The 550 Kit: You get the idea...

The reason is... I don't know enough about engines to know *exactly* what's needed but I'm very interested in this. Any forum vendors wanna put together kits like this and sell them as a group buy? I'm definitely interested in the 450 or 500 kit.

I bought the 11.5 pistons from SGP(pistons are made by CP) and shaved the domes down to give me about 10.5 compression. You should also consider Tomei cams as a choice because I've been very pleased with them.

Does SGP go any lower than the listed prices on their website?

Default Froged internals

So Arias can make an $800 set of 9.5 -10.3 CR pistons.
Who makes a "value oriented" forged rod fro the VQ.
I haven't seen any from Eagle yet.
I like the Pauters , but they are rather pricey.

I am working with Eagle and Wiseco right now to make a more affordable rod and piston combo. We will have engine packages up on our site soon but if you ever have a question about building a engine we can answer it since we have done 8+ now.

Dear Kyle = SGP Racing
I seen in your web side Monster 350Z
8.5:1CR + Tomei CAM
I had a Nismo Cam its will work on TT kit
Because many people saying after market cam is very hard to tune
So they recommend putting back on stock CAM.
What is your recommending?

The aftermarket cams are not hard to tune at all and will gain from 20-50 Rwhp on the top end . So you are better off with the bigger Nismo cams then the stock ones.
