Default Vortech fuel problem - Help

This problem started a few days ago and I am wondering if anyone else has had this experience. I was sitting at a light and began to accelerate as normal, well almost normal. I was applying about 40% throttle (+/- 1lb boost) and things were fine until I reached 3000 rpm, when all of a sudden my motor sounded like the fuel was cut off. I immediately looked at my A/F gauge and it was pegged at 18. After releasing the throttle and re-applying the gas again everything was fine. I have been able to duplicate this with the same throttle application and like clockwork the engine sounds like fuel it shut off. One side note, if I keep the throttle applied while the system is malfunctioning the problem continues. But if I release the gas pedal and then re-apply gas everything is normal. Any advice would be appreciated.

Yeah, it sounds like an AUX pump thing. Did you recently upload from your laptop to the SS box for the first time?

I am not sure where the installer put it. Any suggestions on where to look?

I would agree on the fuel being the problem I am not sure where to look.

If the installer used the Vortech instructions, the fuse should be under the battery cover ...

Default Fuel

Is there any safe way to test the aux fuel pump on the car without disconnecting the system? Perhaps manually apply voltage to the pump (ignition off) and listen for noise, or would this cause fuel buildup??

I did make changes to the fuel map after this problem began; I found that my tuner had copied some cells incorrectly in my opinion. He was taking fuel out prior to any boost being applied. Please see the examples below. Any comments would be appreciated..

The setting I was talking about is the Aux. fuel pump settings . If the problem started right after the tuner...tuned...Then I would say he forgot to check them before he wrote it to the ECU . You have to make sure the settings are right before you write...every time..Its happened to me twice

Here's what I would recommend... Hook up your laptop and do an SS box recording. You basically start the car, connect to the SS box and then when you get to the stop light you start recording and try to duplicate what is happening.

The other thing I would try is to disconnect the ECU overnight and see if it still happens tomorrow.

You also might try changing your Fuel Pump Start Pressure to 1psi. I've never toyed with that value (and didn't think it mattered) but I see that yours is set higher than the other maps I've seen.

===========================
Well I went out today and after about 1 hour of testing I got the system to fail while I was logging data with the R4 software. Please see the attached for details.

I have a question: Does anyone know what the following mean / relate to in the SS software.

I got these figured out….
1. Over RPM = Turn on after this RPM is achieved. (mixed with AND / OR)
2. Fuel Pump start pressure psi = After this psi is achieved (mixed with AND / OR)

I have no clue about these...
3. Over Pressure = ?????
4. Fuel Pump run time = ?????
5. Over INJ % = ?????
6. Fuel Pump start time = ?????

Is anyone willing to share a screen shot of the SS / Output settings for my comparison. I would appreciate. As Steve mentioned it probably has something to do with start times on aux fuel pump.

My settings are as shown in the image below, except that I'm using 2.5 as the Over Pressure rather than 2.9 (although I don't think it really matters):

Steve,

IT could be the "or" as apposed to the AND in output B mode..

Thanks,

Tommy

Tommy, you might as well try it. BTW, where exactly on your R4 recording is it that the A/F spikes? It's hard to tell just by looking at the graph above.

I got mine set at ..3,000rpm or 2.5 . You can still cruise at 70 mph and not have it come on . But I think I will change it next time Im hooked up to the box. Using AND will not have pump come on till you hit 2.5 boost at any rpm
