vortech 2.87 pulley not right
you know what, i dont remember for sure, but i dont think my JS assembly stuck thru the bracket like that (if at all)...
hmmm....
we need Gspot35 to check in on this, and maybe mic' the 287 pulley and see what it measures....

I think Force needs to chime in here . I think I may just grind off enough of the JS to get the 2.87 to work .It has to be softer metal than the pulley its self , as by the damage to the JS and just scrapping off the anodize of the pulley [dont know] .I will get it to work one way or the other . I just need to find out the best way to get it done . ....Thanks...Scott...you've been a great help....Bill

one thing you DONT wanna do is run a pulley that is no longer balanced....
by scraping at the surface like you did, its possible (albeit not much) that you have 'unweighted a portion of it, and will now have a slight wobble introduced...
this could be bad, if multiplied by, say 50K or so (60K really)....
lets hear from steve!!
ese
ps- maybe a machine shope could groove the pulley for you, using a lathe, and then drill any holes in it to balance it back out....

If you could look at it up close you would see that it just scrapped off the anodize , no big deal and I dont think it put it out of balance .{ Ithought of that too ] Thats why I think grinding off the JS assembly would work out best . I got to find out how thick that JS housing is first . I dont believe it will take much more to get it to work , as its already been ground off alot . I understand that Vortech has to be careful of what they say . But I still want to know why you got it to work and it didnt for me . [1] they gave you a different pulley than me . [2] Our JS assembly's are different , either way I want to know . Bill

maybe contact gspot35, and see if he is willing to ship you my old 287 (its a bit scractched, but the rib vanes are true...

ps- he's seeing OVER 9lbs of boost (5at) with my blower, l spec reflash, and 312 pulley.... (the thing pulls HARD!!)

Its looks to me like the Jack Shaft Housing needs to be machined down. The material protruding thru the blower Mounting Plate. That jack shaft housing was not designed to fit smaller that a 3.12 dia pulley (But it could be) I would need to have a 2.87 dia pulley, But it looks like removing about .090 in with a

I still can't believe that one worked and one did not. The prints have not changed...I found out why some of the pulleys in the latest batches are gray. They needed a thinner anodize, so we didn't do the black hard, which would be thicker. Everything is still OK. They are just not black.

Im am going to measure the diamiter of the jackshaft housing and how far it sticks out . If any one has there serp pulley off , could you measure it too , so we can find out if there are differences for one kit to the other ? Or even better yet ...take a pic of the housing with the pulley off and post it so we can compare my housing and others . Hey Gspot if you go to the 2.87...would you take a pic of the housing with the pulley off .As we know that the 2.87 has worked with your jackshaft housing ?Let see if we can find out , Im sure there are others that want to go to the smaller pulley , but are now wondering if it will work or not .We can save others time and money....thx...Bill

Are you sure you want to do this?
Steve from Vortech can you back this up?
gspot35, what you are saying sounds like a reasonable hypothesis, but do you actually have any evidence that what you are saying is right?
Do you know the flow capacity of the intercooler (it's pretty easy to look up since it's an off-the-shelf Spearco)? Did you actually measure the intake temperatures and/or fuel temp or is this just supposition?
With the 34 tooth pulley, my dynos do not show a drop off in power from 6600 to 7100 rpms.

Gspot....I wasnt making full boost to begin with , and with the 3.12 pulley I'm only getting 7.6 lb's .I hope I get to 8lb's with the 2.87 pulley . They rate this blower at 20lb's .Im wondering how they can come up with that number if its close to being maxed out
