HKS supercharger
Hey AmyCroft,
This Z is local to us and hopefully will come to one of our local GTG. I've seen it a couple of time already, the set-up looks very good and package nicely. I think the Engine management that comes from HKS is locked down and can't be re-program. I haven't look at it yet to see what it looks like. Might need a HKS Pro dealer to change programming.
In terms of adding aftermarket headers, plenum and all everyone's guest is as good. Better breathing engine might run the car too lean. I remember a while back where a Z with RT cats ran slightly leaner than factory cats.
Also one side note, the Veilside Ti Exhaust is a work of art by itself.

On my next Z
I'm considering a mild and Carb Certified increase..
The HKS fit's the type of freeway - extra HP - 70HP increase..
Just for passing.. and cruising..
Cheers Amy

I know, but it's overpriced. It's great that it's an out of the box solution, but the whole point to adding FI is to make your car faster. I can't see paying $6500 for minimal gains and saying "well, atleast it runs good". To each his own. Like I said though, i'd buy it in a min if it was cheaper.

of 70 to 80 HP would be the "best bargain in Town"
Maybe the price will fall in the future...

It's like this Greddy has promised CARB certification... this month..
But Nooooo sign yet.. All California Cars will have to be returned to stock.. For their Smog Check.. $2000 and then after Smog Check $2000 to reinstall..
Shall we send the Bill to Greddy for thier Failure?

The real trouble would be from getting pulled over. If a cop sees the turbo then you are going to have to take it off, if you cant continue the case until the Turbo is Carb Legal.

Even with the TT installed the Z should pass smog.

but also tests for visual.. I.E. Changes... Not Stock..
Returning a G/tt to stock for a smog test does not sound like my idea of fun.. CARB cert soon I hope..

overpriced? I would not go so far as to suggest that at all - it's expensive yes, but its also far and away the most complete kit out there right now. Who knows, as the dollar strengthens perhaps we'll see a lower price in years to come. Time will tell I suppose. I look at this kit as a realistic alternative to going all out NA. In that light, given the quality of the components it includes, I think the street prices you see are more than fair.

HKS.. Is most likely to be trusted.. In giving the Highest quality..
I hope you were not.. Saying, that all though we would prefer a
High Volume implimentation that would reduce the per unit cost..
In effect buying a midrange Market Share...
That we would consider the quality of the HKS Unit less than the Higher Powered Compeditors... We never said that..
What we were speaking of was a Poorly Implemented KIt (not Calif Carb) that gives twice the RWHP increase.. At about the same price..
Forgive me if I steped on your tail..

Here we have only installed the Greddy/TT and are still adjusting the E-Manage to our mutual satisfaction..
I doubt that the Dollar Yen value would make a dent in the pricing.. What HKS needs to do - Is Buy Market with a Medium Power increase, for the Mass Market... By lowering the price by increasing production..
Amy - I would reply but most of your most is not making much sense to me, sorry.
Yes the GReddy kit puts out much more HP. These kits are not designed with the same customer in mine IMHO. The GReddy is a terrific kit for those who like to tinker. The HKS is most certainly not this kind of kit however.
Your comment about the yen not affecting things is untrue. All of the Japanese suppliers routinely adjust pricing upwards or downwards wth currency fluctuations. These changes tend to be implemented on an annual basis. They also adjust discount rates to their dealers as incentives during the course of the year. All of these affect bottom line pricing to the end user.
Yes the Vortech also represents a tremendous value....clearly the best value in forced induction IMHO. However, it again is aimed at a different customer. There is zero tuning to be done with the HKS, and zero ancillary items to be purchased, as it comes with everything one could want from an out of the box kit. The HKS gains, by the nature of its induction method, are low to mid range, where the Vortec gains are largely higher in the rev range. I think it's awesome we have such a selection! I look at the HKS kit more along the lines of what Nissan might have given us as a factory option, had that option been available. Had I known the kit was to be a reality a year ago, I would not have embarked down the NA route with my own car, as this kit perfectly suits my own particular wants.
As for the CARB side of things I am admittedly clueless, as I don't know what Greddy ever claimed or quoted, nor do I know if HKS is planning anything in that arena.
