Default Info On The Vortech

Hi guys !

I'm thinking of adding the vortech supercharger but I need some info first.I have an automatic coupe with dc headers and a UR crank pulley R/T cats and Borla exhaust, will my psi drop with these mods ? or should I just remove it all ?

Thanks !

Ihave a 350 5 AT with the vortech unit. I have borla TD exhaust, test pipes, headers and im only getting about 6lb boost max. Im going to get crawford cats and get the 3.12 pulley to get to hopefully above 8lb. Hope that helps

Thanks Aron ,

I think I'll do the same as soon as I get it. Have you dynoed it with 6lb, how much hp are you getting at the wheels ?

GMADD,

I dynoed at 369.5whp and 296lb tq. But i also have JWT camshafts and my car was tuned using the R4 software. Im tuned rather conservatively as well (A/F setting on the rich side) but I was very happy with my numbers. Im also hoping however that the new pulley will cause the boost to kick in quicker.

The UR Cranks is smaller - that may effectively increase boost - be careful with that one - I recall that one of the Procharger cars that blew its engine was running a UR crank pulley.

I actually think running a little less boost with a more engine is a good thing...sacrifice a few ponies (just a few) for longevity - not unlike the HKS kit, but not so expensive

I thought since the UR pulley is smaller, it will spin the supercharger slower, creating less boost.
Can anyone confirm this ?

Yes...get rid of the UR pulley before the SC install . Here is what just happened to me . I had RT cats, headers , Stillen dual exhaust .I put on the Vortech and got 7lb's .The cats failed and I gutted them and added a 3.12 pulley .I got 7.6 lb's . I took off the RT cats and put on Crawford cats . I got 9.2lb's of boost .And after tuning it again...I ended up with the exact same hp and trq. So if you go with cats that dont flow as good you will gain boost but not gain power . My dyno operator told me this would happen when I went to dyno Tuesday...and he was right on...Bill

The smaller pulley at a given RPM will have less angular velocity than a larger pulley at the same RPM.. V=rW where V=belt angular velocity, R=radius (pulley center to belt) W = angular acceleration (rpm converted to radians per sec). Smaller r means smaller V when W is constant..Less boost!

After all this info, I will be removing the UR pulley but I'll keep my R/T cats on for now.

Thanks everyone !

...yeah...what they said...and I meant to say that running a little less boost with a more FREE-FLOWING engine is a good thing!!!

keep in mind that bigger valves and a free flowing engine also reduce idling smoothness. Going bigger on the valves is the first step towards a race oriented car...that may lack the civility of street car. It's not just about flow...but velocity under vaccum....which is where your lives 90% of the time. Personally, I would be VERY happy with 650whp. Good luck.

Jason, I just left you a message on your voicemail. Call me when you get a chance.
