Default help, wierd noises.

background: This started after going to the drag strip firday night, and I was running ET Streets. The drive home had no abnormal sounds.

Now, the car has a wierd knocking sound under load, usually in gear, but I think I can faintly hear it in neutral. Hard to hear over the supercharger when not loaded. Its hard to describe, but if you put a bunch of bolts in a wooden box and tumbled it, it would be a similar sound. My thoughts are Internals (no MIL codes, good oil psi, good wideband readings), clutch (doesn't slip at all), or flywheel, but I have no other ideas. I guess it could also be brakes rubbing somewhere, because it makes noises when I stop, albeit different noises. I'm getting ready to put the car on jackstands and check everything for tightness, but has anyone else experienced anything like this? Its not real loud.

Is it pinging? Detonation? Joenismo's car made some knocking noises coming from the engine...before the rod snapped. So get that checked out right away.

no, its definitely not coming from the engine. Its underneath. Poking around, it seems as though the driveshaft might have excessive rotational play. Have you ever tried to rotate the driveshaft by hand and discovered any play at all? I don't remember it from before, but I never really paid much attention to it. When I jiggle it and it makes contact in the transmission, it makes a noise like I am hearing.

Were you on stock tires? Slicks or drag radials could put excessive load on the rear end and the clutch plate. That's my only guess. I've run M&H drag radials at the track and pulled off some good 60's (1.79) and I haven't had any problems. Mabye your CV joints got messed up, it's hard to say.

Yeah, I was at commerce, and I was on ET Streets. After further inspection and test driving, I found a couple loose aero panels underneath, which may have been part of the noises, and also realized its nothing to do with the engine, because it makes noises over bumps, in or out of gear. I think its just normal squeaks and rattles, I've just don't normally hear them with the radio on. I'm just paranoid I guess. The sound is louder with the windows closed, and going over the curb into our driveway, my wife couldn't hear it from outside the car, but I could hear it inside.
