I think the hood looks really ugly. Roots SC does have advantages, but also has issues with heat and intercooling. Plus....HKS is HKS. I have never heard of a bad product or customer support problems.

I know I will be purchasing an HKS setup as soon as I have the cash.
The HKS set-up is rated to give an 80whp gain, or roughly 320 wheel hp and 380 crank hp. It is more conservative than other kits, but still considerably more than what you could do NA for the same money. I'm going this route mainly because I see this kit as reasonably powerful and still safe.

HKS Rotrex Supercharger kit for 03-Up Nissan 350Z. This direct bolt-on kit produces a 80+ Horsepower gain over stock (measured at the rear wheels), with boost set to 0.48bar (-7PSI). The supercharger is a centrifugal type that features a unique traction drive, and a closed oil circulation system. The traction drive utilizes fixed ratio planetary rollers that are more efficient than traditional gear-wheels. Because the planetary rollers do not have teeth like traditional gear-wheels, noise is decreased and reliability increased. The closed oil circulation system cycles a specially-formulated Traction Oil that lubricates and cools the supercharger, dramatically increasing longevity and reliability. The Traction Oil is cooled through an air to fluid oil cooler.

The HKS Rotrex Supercharger kit for the Nissan 350Z includes all the necessary components for a complete installation:
HKS Rotrex Centrifugal Supercharger Unit.
Front Mount Intercooler.
S/C Controller (Engine Management with direct plug harness).
Traction Oil Cooler.
Tuned Cast-Aluminum Mounting Bracket (This bracket has been specifically engineered and tested to minimize noise and vibration).
525cc Injector X 2.
Bolt in Fuel Pump Assembly.
Super Mega Flow Intake.
Standard Bypass Valve. Pending CARB exemption.

Guess I was wrong bout the HP output. But 80 HP is fine for me. My goal is about 400rwhp. So, I think this is easily attainable with this kit and a few more upgrades. Once you get it take alot of pictures of the install. Also, if you could please record the sound of the BOV that would be badass! Thanks

I saw this "Kit" at Nissan Nationals in Gardena..

HKS Salesman said it would be Carb Certified before release..

I have not seen the HKS Spec Sheets

However I did hear the HKS ckank up..

I Don't think it's near the Greddy TT..

But it was slow and pleasant... The Blow off valve had a nice Fart Note..

But I agree for that extra "Yes I can Pass" and not have to do a
PMI after each run... I'd say it is well balanced for us Freeway Drivers..

Cheers Amy -

As a Note Jason from Performance actually drove one.. He was impressed...

Don't take offence.. 350Now, Wld350Z, GQ_626, and Phunk..

Just a streetable and Perhaps CARB soulution...

Cheers Amy -

I'd be interested to see the 1/4 miles times with just the SC and some drag radials.

Sorry, just a newbie question (I've never FI'd a car before)... but why only 80whp? 7psi is 7psi, right? So why are all other SCs out there making so much more power at about the same boost levels? Is this kit blowing hot air, or is it's torque curve simply poorly suited for the Z? I'm not in any way trying to bash the HKS kit -- I'm intently waiting for feedback to see if I want to buy one myself, I'm just trying to do my research.

It seems that most every kit on the market ends up making more power than advertised once you tune them. I've seen Vortech and Procharger units make power in the low 300rwhp range. After some fine tuning, they're making 400rwhp. They all seem to be ultra conservative in their ratings.

Once a few HKS units hit the streets and people learn to tune them, we will see what they can really do.

The base kit is 320rwhp @ 7psi. Very , very doubtful you'll ever get 400rwhp out of this kit. If you want this kind of power output , it's "not" the kit for you.

I am looking at this kit as well. I have a FX35 and they plan to have a kit for it as well. A couple things I like about the stillen is the roots style will produce power immediately, throttle response should be better since it is mounted right on motor. Appears the Stillen will acheive about the same hp as the HKS with just 6psi. I think this is due to the plumbing and IC used on HKS system. One extra for the FX is the Stillen fits under my hood, no mods. On the HKS side, I have heard that the kit is of the highest quality and blower is pretty slick. I really like the fact that the harness is plug and play with no soldering. I haven't really seen any problems with the Stillen installs and the HKS reputation seems to be the best. Please let us see the dyno numbers once you get this installed

I’m heavily leaning toward the HKS supercharger for my 350Z for the same reasons you are Speedracer. I hope you will get the car dynoed after the install. If so please post results! If it gets 320 whp from the kit alone that would be good enough for me. Then adding a good cat back exhaust and headers I should be pushing 400 crank hp. Mine is a daily driver as well and reliability is paramount with me, too. I have heard that the HKS supercharger for the 350Z gets much better low end power/response than the other centrifugal superchargers (Vortch, Procharger). Please let me know if that is reality after the install and the dyno info should show that as well if the low end power is there as advertised. I also heard that you only have to change the supercharger lubricant every 100,000 miles for the HKS. That also sounds very good. Hope everything turns out as well for you as it looks on paper. I’ve also heard that changing the air filter is much easier for the HKS kit compared to the Vortech. Please keep us updated on all this and everything else you notice. The $5920 price sounds much more reasonable than the list price, too. Good luck! I used HKS parts heavily for the Mitsubishi Eclipse GSX turbo I bought new and owned and raced for 4 years. I was very very impressed with the HKS parts and customer service in a multitude of ways. And I always got more power than HKS advertised without even tuning. Be neat if that applies to the Z car as well.

7 psi is 7 psi yes....as a measure of pressure.

7 psi on the HKS rotrex sc is vastly different from 7 psi on the ATI SC or the Greddy TT's.

PSI of boost means nothing...its what the Torretto wannabe's tell each other to make themselves seem more badass than the person next to them.

It's all about cfm's.

adam

PS - everything left today....let me know when it arrives please!

Hope this doesn't sound to harsh, but assueing that you could add 80rwhp with the addition of headers and a catback to this kit is a very naive. Even test pipes in additon you'd be luckey to get 1/2 way there. The basic restriction to 400rwhp in this set is on the intake side (very low CFM head unit and IC). So your assumption is basic "ricer math" IMO.

G3po: He said 400crank HP which is close to 330rwhp. At first I was wondering what he was smoking but then I saw he clearly stated crank hp for his goal.

OK , then I misread, sure 10 extra HP with a Catback and headers is reasonable. The +80rwhp threw me for a loop.
So, I stand corrected.

Don't get me wrong, I think seems to offer many benefits, But "big-big" expansion possiblities is just not one of them.

Glad you guys have cleared up the confusion and you are right. I said, “ If it gets 320 WHP (“WHP” is the key word, this is HP at the wheels) from the kit alone that would be good enough for me. Then adding a good cat back exhaust and headers I should be pushing 400 CRANK (the other key word) hp. 320 HP at the wheels mentioned is approx. 380 CRANK hp which is measured at the crankshaft (or engine if you prefer) from adding the HKS kit to the engine. Therefore since that kit is saying that its addition to engine provides approx. 380 hp at the CRANK (shaft), I am only estimating that a good set of headers and cat back exhaust is adding somewhere close to 20 crank hp for the aprox. 400 CRANK (shaft) hp I mentioned. And note that I said that with this set up the engine should be “pushing” 400 CRANK hp. In other words it should be getting “close to” 400 CRANK (shaft) or hp at the engine. You know, plus or minus several hp. Adding 20 CRANK (engine) hp from adding headers and a cat back is a rough approximation and pretty realistic.

I really should not have spoken in terms of wheel hp in one sentence and then changed to crank hp in another. The reason I did so is that 400 crank or engine hp is a nice round, fairly attractive if relatively conservative mod to this engine. As I said, this is pretty decent setup if the rock solid reliability and ease of maintenance discussed turns out to be a reality. Since my Z is a daily driver to work, etc., I have to weigh that aspect heavily.
