Default My Tires are GONE!!!

I took my coupe in today to fix an air leak and found that my tires were wasted.

I think I drive my car pretty hard, but w/ 13K miles, I did not expect to have to replace my back tires. Give me a break. I have an auto tanny, and almost never do any wheel spin. I did not expect the tires to last 40K, but 13K come on!!

Anyone else have such a poor result?

Any suggestions on my next set?

I would like to get 20K out of a set of back tires, but if I have to accept less in order to keep my traction I my do so.

What tires do you have ? My stock tires are , GoodYears eagles , with 9,000 miles . Rears have less tread left than front , but still plenty left . Gonna keep them for winter . I got Nitto 555's on now

Your right of course. Bu since I don't spin the wheels much at all, I figured my tread would last longer.

booger,

I have the stock Michelln Pilot Sports that come on the G35.

highway miles also will wear them down faster. i got 17k out of mine. by that time they were very bald and probably should have been changed sooner

PoweRtPiP,

Thats interesting. I always thought stop and go traffic would wear the tires more. I figured on the open road there is not much downward force applied to the tires and thus they would not leave as much tread on the ground. Why do you think tires wear out faster on the open road? Heat?

nope. they wear out faster at higher speeds due to the amount of heat generated by the friction at higher speeds. stop and go is only hard on your driveline and brakes. so long as you dont lock up your tires or burn out city driving is ideal for tire life.

also keep in mind that if you drag race the tires will go through heat cycles, im not very knowledgeable on this but i understand that the more times you heat up the tires to an extreme condition i.e. staging/burnouts the harder the compound gets. that is why tires are best when new and begin to become less effective at the end of their life bc they begin to harden, and become more brittle.

Smile Actually Alignment - If not doing Burn outs

Actually it's Alignment - If you are not doing burnouts...

If you measure with a Ruler or Tape..

On the rear suspension:
From one center tire grove on the right to the left side Center tire grove.. Measure front and rear ( about 6" high )

the front distance between the tire grove left, to grove right shoud be 1/16" shorter than the distance measured on the rear side Left to right..

That is tow in rear of -1/16" Total

Your car will roll so well - on smooth streets - when you want to slow down - you will need to brake.. Not just let off the gas.

If your car is stock in spring hieght - and have run it a year..
the total tow is about -1/8" tires would wear out at about 20k to 24K - Set rear total tow to -1/16

If your car has been lowered Rear (1") and no manual alignment done.. Your rear Tow in will be nearly -3/16" to -1/4" Tow in.. Tire life 8k to 12K
Set rear tow total to -1/16

Note: the reason I use Fraction of inches is that shops that do manual alignment are old school and the would ask you - what does .02mm equal to Inches?
