Default My Car After Crawford :)

Let me just say that Doug and the entire Crawford crew couldn't have been any better. Many of you already have Crawford products and know they are of the highest quality but for those of you that haven't been to the shop and experienced their service... It doesn't get any better. Crawford stands behind their products and service. They are devoted to making your car a *safe and reliable* monster. It was definitely worth the 5 hour drive each way for me.

Doug said it best when he described my car as a scalded dog. From a stop, all the way to a 15mph roll this car just lights up the tires and turns sideways. I have driven both the E55 AMG and the M3 SMG (both are autos) and both would lose in a bad way in stock form. I'm just guessing but from my last dyno and track experiences, I'm estimating I have around 415rwhp and will do 12 seconds flat in the 1/4 with a little traction. These numbers will be confirmed in the next week

Initially I had the 9lbs pulley and was going to add cams. Doug reccomened trying the 7 lbs pulley with cams and go up from there. Let me just say I wouldn't know what to do with any more boost than 8.2 psi. I already know I need 10.5" rims in the back. Keep in mind I have the Crawford headers, high flow cats, polished plenum, strut bar and polished timing covers.

My car idles between .875K and .9K. First comes the high stall torque converter to start the madness, then the supercharger builds boost around 3.5K and the cams hit around 4.5K. It's all I can do to hold on and keep the car on the road

Anyway, I thought I would include a pic of the polished timing covers and plenum. Crawford does great work. Thanks again guys!

Like for the whole car, supercharger, cams, covnerter etc... Or just the Crawford parts and install?

My car is currently for sale, so you can look in that section to see what has gone into it already.

Thanks KSHEP... I was wondering if you could describe how your car pulls with the turbo and what you have done about traction issues? I have never been in a 5AT TT 350Z. I know the turbo produces more torque but with the converter and cams this thing really is crazy. In manual mode are you laying rubber between gears? Do you have traction issues between 1-3 gear? I only ask becasue I don't know what to do about my traction problems

The car is for sale becasue I need a car with a back seat. My wife and I recently had another child and the new minivan I bought here isn't enough. I need to be able to cart my 3 year old around now

The cost for the polished IC and polished SC with injectors, flash and tune was around $8.5K installed. I also added an AFR, FP and a fuel return system for safety. I also have a WB o2 sensor/gauge, FP gauge and boost gauge. I added irridium spark plugs one degree cooler and an oil spacer allowing me to add 1 more quart of oil for safety. So just for the SC and related items I have spent about $9.5K.

The cams, plenum, cats, converter, exhaust, polishing, etc is all a different story. I have spent a lot on this car.

I'm waiting for the J&S to arrive before tuning / increasing boost beyond 5.6. I've been very patient with this engine, trying to install all the components to ensure longevity short of forged internals...and giving that serious thought now.

That said...I haven't done many WOT runs. The few times I've had to get on it to clear traffic, on warm 295 rear rubber, she's hooked up pretty good overall. My car is not VDC equiped, if that matters.

Sorry you're selling...good luck with the sale.

KSHEP, you are smart to be careful...I'm sure you have heard about gurgan and some of the guys from Puerto Rico. Those are the only others I know with 350Z 5AT TT's and all have had rod problems with perfect AF ratios and J&S. If I was going to keep this car, it would have built internals and I would turn up the boost.

Its tough for me right now because I have the 9lbs pulleys just sitting here but I don't feel safe using them. The 7 lbs pulleys give me 8.2 psi with the ecu flash and the 9 lbs pulleys give me 10.5 psi.

It sounds like I need 10.5" rims...

Yup...read about those PR guys blowing...and am dismayed about Gurgen's as he seemed to take the same precautionary route.

Car is back in the shop next week for new valve stems and some Profec tweaking. Some discussion on building the engine is scheduled. Crap...thiss really getting expensive and time consuming. My car will be one year old in two weeks..it has 3600 miles on it...will it ever end so I can actually drive it?

Have fun picking out a new car...

ps.zland suggested the wheel & tire setup I am running

Get a G , then you will have a back seat and a place for your parts.

Daddy, I have a very similar setup to you minus the Crawford parts. Other than that we are almost identical. The only thing is that with the 7 psi pulley, my Greddy boost gauge read 7 psi dead on and now with the 9 psi, it reads 9 psi dead on.

Why do you think you are getting more?

I have the TS ECU reflash for FI as well.

Man, if they weren't so far away, I would consider driving there for all of the Crawford goodies. Any guess on how much the plenum, headers, cats, install, and dyno tuning would be?

Do they have a dyno there?

Kshep and others:

Remember, if you buy a 3 pcs wheel and change cars, you can use those wheels again and change the offset on a 3 pc wheel. This is also useful if you decide to flair the fenders etc....

I love the polished plenum. I just recieved my plenum today from Crawford. I got the glossy black. Maybe I'll polish when I do the engine buildup.

Let me just say that it has been much more difficult to control the boost of this SC kit then expected. I'm not sure why but when I changed to the 9lbs pulleys I had some issues where my boost would go as high as 10.8psi and sometimes only 6 or 8psi. This was frustrating becasue we would get different boost pressures from differnet gauges at differnet times. After calling ATI several times (I'm sure they thought we were crazy) we found the problem. Crawford found that the release valve was rubbing on the wheel well, forcing it to open. (releasing boost)

Before going to Crawford and having my ecu flashed by TS I would hit 7psi. It wasn't until my rev limiter was raised that I was able to hit 8.2psi with the stock 7lbs pulley. If I were you I would check your release valve and make sure all of your clamps are tight. Who knows the plenum may be helping me out here a little too?

Crawford doesn't have an in house dyno but they do have a good relationship with a local dyno and the dyno rates are good.

The plenum and cats are a fairly simple install but the headers, especailly with your SC already installed is not going to be easy. If I were you, I would call Doug and see what he says. I would guess under $600 for thel install of cats, headers, plenum and strut bar (if interested) and another $150 or less for tuning. (Again I am no expert on their pricing structure but you asked for a guess) Another thing for you to think about is the TS flash. The flash may need to be tweaked after the addition of these parts...

Again your best bet is to call Doug. He knows this car as well or better than anyone and has done several set ups just like ours. I would tell you to take your car down there regardless of the distance. If you really want to know what I think... I would tell you get the plenum for safety (eventhough it does add hp) and get the cats, headers and cams for performance. It really is a night and day difference. With this set up I'm ready to give some of the turbo guys a run for their money.

I really think part of it has to do with the better breathing the Crawford headers and/or the Crawford plenum offer. Are you running either of these mods, Ed?

When we tuned my car (with all the Crawford goodies), the R4 software showed I was hitting peak boost numbers in the mid-9lb range with the normal Vortech pullies. This is higher than it is rated and higher than what most others have hit. The only real differences I could identify were the two componentns mentioned.

whosdady...
did you get another dyno yet? Interested in seeing what you make at this point. I think if you hit really high numbers, this further confirms my suspicion above. My personal feeling is the high torque number you posted in the other thread is an aberation. Based on your sig line, tho, you should easily be in the 420hp range and high 300s in torque (about the same as I have hp-wise, but better torque numbers). Can't wait to see it!
