Default Vortech Belt problems?

I've had the vortech unit for about 6k miles now and the belt is beginning to wear, getting lots of whine....BUT i'm also getting a VERY VERY loud screaching (or scraping) sound that mostly ocurrs when I start up the car. This morning it was real loud for like 5 minutes....Is this the belt or the blower? Or is it something else? Or is the oil not getting to the sc? Did not sound good this morning. Im also getting a light but quick sputtering sound coming from beneath the engine bay below the engine which I have no idea what it is. Has anyone had this same sound. It almost sounds like a leak but i think something is worn out or about to break. Any help or info would be appreciated.

Might need a new serp belt. Also I corrected a squeak by PROPERLY torqing the idler pulleys. 23-28ft lbs, I did 28 since the load is more than stock.

these f#cking noises never go away... you tighten the belt, its cool but always comes back.. the design is horrible, serpentine belt is just way too big, ATI has it right i think w/ the two cog belts and shorter serpentine belt.. even when i get the belts right, the pulleys make noise when its cold for a bit..

Yeah, the whole vortech setup looks pretty wimpy. The belt is very long and narrow with the pulleys, everything seems to have to be perfect for the unit to be fully operational with no noise. A new belt costs 65 bucs as well. A damn belt! Im guessing its my pulleys making that loud screaching noise. Narkotic, is that what you think, or do you not get that very loud screaching noise at start up?

well i'ts hard to tell you unless i hear it... how old is your unit? they've since equiped it with a shorter serp belt, becuase the original one would eventually stretch out and coudln't tighten it anymore.. i've had my switched to the newer one but it's starting to get noisy again.. i'm pretty close to tearing the entire system out, i hate how noisy it is

Go to NAPA and get a replacement "serp belt". Part: V-Ribbed Belt #060935. Plus, better quality and half the price!

yep.. belt should be $30-$40... and that is almost certainly the problem.

After 6000 miles of hard work, it has gotten loose. You can probably work the noise out by tensioning it, but it will come back sooner every time. I just make a point to change both my Vortech belts every 5000 miles now as regular maintain. Squeek means slippage means lost HP!

Hey ti488, are you running 3.12 pulley? If so what gates belt are you using? I bought 2 belts from Vortech and wow the noise! What is the part #?
