Default anyone pull their own engine yet?

I'm thinking with my oil burn problem, I will have to replace the rings myself. Can't upgrade rods and pistons due to a 1/3 pay cut, so I just want to fix it on the cheap. How involved is pulling it out the top as opposed to from below like the service manual calls for?

I watched Joenismo pull his from the front. The whole front crossmember unbolts and he hung it on a cherry picker and rolled it out. It seemed to go pretty smoothly.

03_ppw (cant remeber the rest of his screename), pulled and rebuilt his motor in his home garage.

If you are a pretty skilled mechanic, it should be doable.

Hopefully it won't be too bad, cause I plan on doing mine when I get that far. Shouldn't be any harder than that 13B out of my rx7 to rebuild.

I'm pretty good mechanically, basically just looking for a few tips, like where to bolt the hooks to sling it out and any special tools I might want to acquire in advance.

obviously a decent torque wrench, and ring expander/compressor.
