Default Vortech Owners-Noise at Idle

I now have about 12,000 miles on my Vortech.
Its has a vibration noise (in the gerars) at Idle up to about 800RPM After is up to Temp.
It was very little noise brand new, But now is much louder. It s bugs me, like when I'm sitting at a street light.
All the sound is coming from the Supercharger.
IT is NOT rubing or hitting anything that I can see.
Does any have this problem?

maybe something is loose?? when you check it and the car is not running it doesn't appear anything is touching.. but when you are idling, it might slightly be vibrating???

Thanks Cat,
No there is nothing hitting or rubbing.

I'm looking for people that are experiencing extreme gear noise at Idle.
Thats Timrod

Tim, if it makes you feel any better, every Vortech car I have heard makes that same noise at idle. It has made it on my car since it was installed.

After a cold start there is no noise until it warms up. Possibly because the car idles at a higher RPM until it warms.

I agree that it is a little annoying, but I try not to think about it. You would think it would be easy to pick out a vibrating part, but it looks to me like everything is bolted on solid.

Just a thought but, how tight is the short belt between the blower and the jackshaft? Could th enoise be coming from there?

My blower developed a nasty noise like a month ago and hasnt stopped since. It sounds as though the blower is clogged with something and you can here it constantly in the car at idle. Im assuming this is the same sound booger you are having.

I never had this sound before at all and it doesnt sound like it should be there. Could it be because I havent changed the filter yet? I does not sound good, and I would hate for it to get worse. BUT it is definitely coming from the blower itself

Aron- it sounds like you have a different problem. Vortech has told me that the noise is normal. It is caused from vibration, but would not hurt anything.

when it started getting cold, mine started making more noise as well. I think it's normal. Dollar99 (who was one of the first to have the vortech on his car said his made a lot of noise when it was cold outside, last year.

Mine has made a bit of a noise at idle since I installed it. If you rev it up it goes away. Maybe next week we can meet up and compare grinding noises Aaron! I'm out of town for the Holidays this week. I'll PM you next week...

I have a grinding noise also, but just when the revs are under 700 rpm. I think it is normal on all centrificals.

Hey, I have a possible fix for you guys. Mine had the same noise at idle, sounded kind of like a spray paint can rattle. I found out that the jackshaft blower side gear was loose. The bolt was lock-tited down, but there was play in the gear. I could wobble the gear back and forth even though the bolt was tight.

I just got a wrench and tightened it until there was no play in the jackshaft supercharger side pulley. Unfortunately, I broke the loktite seal and it worked loose and ate through my cam position sensor wire and I lost the bolt.

But I fixed it all, got a new bolt and put alot of loktite and I have NO RATTLE at idle, or any other speed coming from the belt or supercharger assembly.
