Default AEM Intake Installed

Hey guys, I ordered my AEM intake from Jimmy @ Street Image last week and have been driving around with it on for about 3 days [2 of which have been raining hard]. So I finally got to floor it last night and, MAN - that thing is LOUD! Alittle on the rasp side but around 4000RPMs it made the passanger go, " ..wth did you do... and people in a nearby parking lot go "" Lol. Anywho, I can't really tell a difference in performance or gas milage [HA!] But I'm happy with it for my 1st performance mod with only 2200 miles on the car. Street Image was very helpful and patient with me even once I got around to calling Jimmy at closing time and shipping was right on time. I'll definately order my G stuff through this company.

You can see the pics on my cardomain page!!!

According to the instructions, you can install it by taking off one of your wheels. As for cleaning the filter, i'm not too sure about that.. probably the same i would assume.

It was a pain in some places to put in. The instructions got vague half way through and since they were installing it on a Sedan, while some of the stuff was the same, some wasn't which left you going. "Where the hell is that screw at...." I could see how it makes sense to take off the front bumper to change, the filter is right next to the bottom left grill and you can touch it from there. The only other way to clean it is to take the wheel off, we ended up having to take the entire inner fender [not just 'fold it back'] along with taking half of the underguarding plastic stuff off the bottom of the front bumper. MAYBE you can get the filter off by just getting to it through the engine compartment, it might be a long reach down there but it might can be done.....I guess I'll tell in time..haha. Overall I'm very happy with it. Gonna hook up the G-Tech tonight [friends] and see what it says!

You guys with the AEM do you have a 6sp or auto? I have a 6sd and the AEM just wont work with my car! I love the sound and added HP. but the car dies when dropping R's. If Im on the freeway and pull the car out of gear and let the R's drop the car will die. Ive installed this every way I can and its still a no go. I took the car to the dealer last week for a reprogram and they found no problems with the car or the install. They said they do many AEM's but on auto's. Anyway the car is still doing it. Just wanted to know if anyone else is having the problem.

Can you convert it to a short ram air intake setup like you can the Injen? I was able to set my Z up this way, maybe try and see if that will help?

I've heard of other people's cars dying while pulling out of gear and coasting while in neutral with a 6MT. That's with no aftermarket intake - bone stock. My question is, why would you want to take the tranny out of gear and coast with no load on the engine from freeway speeds?

Lets say your in a corner and your gearing down but taking your time. Next thing you know it dies. I dont have this problem but the wife drives the car a lot! All I need is for it to die in a corner. I paid 250.00 for this mod, I dont want it to be half assed.

turn your air mangament control to the other side, its like stretched not that it matters but just looks cleaner. other than that looks awesome.

I love my Injen.

I have a 6MT witht the AEM CAI and I have no issues whatsoever. I have heard of people installing the mass air flow sensor backwards when they put the intake back together and the car does not like what it sees. I would double check your installation and make sure that everything is on there right.

The other problem that some people run into is getting the MAF dirty during installation, which can be fixed by spraying it down with electrical cleaner, letting it dry and then reinstalling.

Any questions let me know and I can try and help you out.

Ive tried ALL of that. No joke Ive had it on and off 26 times! Ive turned the MAF sensor around in ever direction until I got back to where I started. I work at a performance shop and the AEM rep came and tried to get it to work. He couldnt find anything wrong. My best friend has a 6sp also. I think Im going to try it on his car.

I have the same problem on my VR6 Corrado with a CAI all the way down in the front most corner being blasted by air on the free way. The problem being, as you probably already know, is the low pressure that is a result of the air flowing past the filter at highway speeds. Where as the pressure inside the tube is a low pressure when at idle and at freeway speeds. As we all know slower moving air exerts more pressure than fast moving air, ie. lift on an airplane wing. The only way to fix this is to either increase the pressure surrounding the airfilter by allowing no other way for the fast moving air to go but to bunch up, slow down, and enter the intake thereby increasing pressure and preventing the stall at idle speeds, or to move the filter up and away. You can even try putting something in front of the filter and air blast to disrupt and thus slow down the air. I like to think of it as when you stick your head out the window when you were a kid on the road and its difficult to breathe becuase the air gets sucked out of your lungs.

AEM Intake is nice and the same as the NISMO Intake. But the NISMO Comes standard with the Water Diverter so if you are in a rainy climate you will really appreciate it when you need it.
