G Performance Disappointing?
Is it me or are the performance figures for modified Gs disappointing?
I know the Z is the car to pick for performance, but I would not have thought that there would be such a seemingly large difference between the two.
For example, many Zs are hitting 13s with bolt on NA mods only. How many Gs have done that? How many Gs have trapped >101mph NA? I saw one in a car mag but other than that it seems that the Gs are destined to put out 230-240hp max and do 14.2s if youre a very skilled driver..
It almost seems as if mods arent taking effect. One G driver can get a 14.3 stock and another with all kinds of mods gets 14.29. A Z with the same mods might get 13.7. Its confusing, disappointing, and somewhat depressing. Anyone feeling the same way?
All I can think of is that maybe the ECU on the Gs is somehow limiting the effects of mods? Or maybe its just because so few Gs are modified? Or maybe I'm looking at all of this the wrong way?

its nice having a sunroof and back seats
if all you want to do is hit sub 14s alls yuus has to do is rip out the back seat and passenger seat, take out the sunroof and replace it with lexan. With those very simple mods should get you sub 14s and also the track Z has forged wheels so if you can get some LMGT4 with Toyo Tis and youll be hitting sub 14s and think about it you will be exactly like a Z. No sunroof and no back seat with lightweight wheels and the difference of a couple of tenths of a seconds in the 1/4 mile.
think about it is it really worth it ????

stock Z's are also hitting sub 14'z.... when I was stcok with my auto I hit a 13.9XX trapping 101. with all N/A mods and even no cams and drag radials, people have hit 12.9XXX. Alot of Z's are beginning to hit DEEEEEEEEEEP 13'z with just DR's and breathing mods. Me with j ust intake exhaust and test pipes, should be able to hit a 13.5 or 13.6 even in my automatic.
It could def use a solid 30 or 40 more horsies but then that wouldn't be enough after awhile! My friend has a Caddy CTS-V with 400 hp and after a week he said he wouldn't mind another 50! When I need to go like hell I jump on my 01 GSXR 750!

That's why I installed a vortech....Now I have a back seat (I have a 2 year old, I need it), sun roof, and 380rwhp.

Of course you are looking at it the wrong way. The G may not be the fasted 6 cylinder car out there but it is fast enough to pass about 98% of the cars you will see on the road. It may not be the most luxurious car comparing it to Lexus or even some acuras but its enough for about 99% of the people.
The one thing you are over looking is the G is one of the best looking coupes on the road today without paying over $100g.
think of the G as that sexy, smart, funny, athletic girl everybody wants to marry. she may not have the biggest **** or be a rocket scientist but the overall package is just right

it still seems to me that if Zs are getting very low 13s with breathing mods the G should at least be able to hit high 13s with breathing mods.

Also there is a huge irregularity in how people do their 1/4's. People often fail to mention when they are running slicks or took out their spare tire and pasanger seat or dropped their tire presure to some low number.
The problem with the G is the weight, as people have already stated. Most G's will have a sunroof and of course they all have backseats, unlike the Z. Also factor in that the Z has a tiny bit more hp. I mean 7hp is not much of a difference, but im sure it doesn't hurt. As for the 298hp '05 G, that might be a different story.
I test drove the G and it has its own category: luxury, 4 seater, appealing, sunroof, & heavy, and others. I was disspointed in the performance! On the other hand, the Z is different category for: style, simplicity, performance, and after market mods. I chose the Z over the G. I didn't want to carry the extra people. I know it sounds selfish but oh well!!!
another factory people does not realize is that the G35 are usually driven by non-performance/racing owners meaning the percentage of G35 drivers dragging their cars are a lot less than 350z drivers. Thus giving the impression that the G35 is a lot slower than the 350z when IMO its false. There is a lot more 350z race/performance drivers so they have a lot more of exposure of having/maiking the car perform at its best unlike the G35. And of course the G35 is slower due to the weight difference.

APS G35 Twin Turbo System testing - awesome
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hi Guys, I've been road testing the APS Twin Turbo System on the G35 coupe over the last 2 weeks and I must say that the G35 is truely an awesome car, I wish this G35 was sold in OZ, I reckon it would be extremely popular.
The APS Intercooled Twin Turbo system has been installed on the G35 coupe and to my surprise only a small number of new components were required for the G35 twin turbo conversion............awesome.
The initial dyno and road testing has been conducted with a little over 400 WHP and the G35 is just so smooth and powerful, it's really a joy to drive.
I'd love to have Gurgen fly down to Oz and road test the APS G35 intercooled twin turbo (Gurgen jump on a plane mate and get down to Oz as I need a co-driver for additional road testing) as I'm sure he's very experienced with the power delivery of twin turbos on his own G35.
I'm positive Gurgen would be very impressed with the way the APS twin turbos puts down the power down on the road, I'm that impressed I spent last night thinking what would be the easiest method for a right drive coinversion for the G35 coupe, I just love this car.
I hope to get some pics and a good deal of info up on the APS web site within the next 24 to 48 hours, In the interim period if you guys have any questions ask away and I will answer what questions I can.
Thanks
Peter
