Help on buying a G35
couple of questions-
Some of you guys that are in the NJ/NY area (where i live) - Did you get between $500-$1000 over invoice price? Is the invoice price right on the window sticker?
I think i'll be leasing the G- should i try to get the best price on the G then talk about monthly payments? I'm a little lost on how the process works- (my first new car) I don't want to get raped on it. Thanks

You should be able to get a great deal on one right now, The lady and I went out on Saturday and got her a a new 04 model. The dealer here has like 22 leftover and we got an awesome deal so now there are to VQ's in the garage and we both could not be happier.
i am also about to trade in my 05 SCION tC for a Z or G35...c what happens... i may just end up buying a used one.. i learned right from buying the scion.. never! ever buy a car bran spanking new.. you throw 2-3k right out the window as soon as you drive off the lot....
The sticker in the window is the Monroney (sp?) aka Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price (MSRP). This is what the manufacturers feel the dealers should sell the car for to maintain adequate overhead and profit to run their businesses.
The quicker the dealer sells the car and the more cars they sell, the more likely they are to have wiggle room to sell under the MSRP.
Invoice price is the price the dealer pays for the car. The invoice price is about $3k less than the MSRP for the G coupe. The more stuff (spoiler, premium package, etc.) you add on the greater this margin becomes. Included in the invoice sometimes is a dealer holdout. If the cars are really moving like crap, the manufacturers sometimes will give this back to the dealer as incentive to sell the car lower to move them off the lots.
If you get something below invoice, the dealer is paying you to take the car. This is not the case with the G.
I think $500 above invoice is a good place to start with the ultimate goal of meeting these guys no more than 1/2 way between invoice and MSRP. You can get some really good deals on 04's right now, so consider that as an option to the 05's. You can get invoice prices and other information for a nominal fee on sites like Consumer Reports.
Good luck.

Hey guys,
I just sold my 2001 S2000 and I am also in the process of buying a G35. I am a Finance manager for a Honda dealership. So far, I have gotten $800 over for a 2005 Black on stone 6 speed with premium package. Still working these guys. Just to give you guys an idea, never let the dealers know that you are working on monthly payments. Negotiate to get the price you want and then ask what the terms and apr are. Most of the time I recommend getting quotes by email and then visit the dealership. Trust me! I was an Internet sales manager also. Rule of thumb is that every $1000 is roughly about $20 towards your monthly payment (give or take on a 60 month term). Leasing would normally save you about $80 to $100. Leasing is very complicated to understand and alot of times you won't know exactly what fees you have paid on top of the price of the car. If you need any help, your more than welcome to pm me.
