Default In the market... any advice?

I recently decided that I think I'm going to shoot for a used G35 coupe (probably a 2003) if I can afford it... it's been my dream car for a long time.

Anything I should look out for? Are there any major problems that develop with the G35 after 40k miles or so?

And quick question, how is the maintence cost on keeping those brembo brakes up and running?

If you can get an '04 do it since there were a slight improvements in the interior, and transmission. If not the '03 is still a great car. The brembos are expensive if you use OEM parts. There are many suppliers that sell aftermarket high quality pads. It is really a DIY to change those. If you don't and get a shop to do the work and turn the rotors you should still expect to pay only $400 or so. The Brembos should last 35-50k miles and emit a lot of brake dust with OE pads. Other than that they're pretty well bullet proof. The non Brembo cars had brake issues which Infiniti is warranteeing for 3 years 36K.
I drive an '04 coupe 6mt.

I'm coming from.... well I guess my last real car was a 04 Scion tC... I sold it and bought a daily beater (95' Geo Prizm) which I drive to work and school now.

The G35 would be a pure entertainment car for me, I'd pretty much only drive it when the weather is nice or when I go out at night.

If the dealership is open today I'm going to go test drive a red 03 6speed... sort of high mileage (about 47k) but there really aren't alot of other options on the market around here right now. I'm going to see if I can talk them down to around 23k or 24k due to the high mileage. We'll see.

I would find out how much life the Brembos and pads have first. I just bought new Hawk pads for $175 and put them on myself which was a piece of cake. Rotors can be had anywhere from 150 to 350 per pair depending on options like slotting or drilled.

My car just got a new tranny/clutch under warranty at around 40K, but I don't think it's all that common.

Yeah seems like alot of those figures are off... didn't the non brembo brake systems on the coupe and sedan have alot of problems? I've never heard anyone complain about the brembos...and I'm definetally gonna go with the 6MT.

I'm gonna have my mechanic go over it pretty thouroughly before I buy anyway, just to see how bad the wear and tear is and what not. I really wish I could get one with lower mileage, but $25k is about as high as I can go, and I don't intend on driving it very often so I figure it should hold up pretty well...

Going to look at it monday... we shall see....

woah... am I correct in that I just found out that Infiniti's bumper to bumper warranty is 4 years and 60k miles? So that means the car in question is still under warranty, is it not? I know this warranty information is current, but was it like this in 2003? (recap if you don't want to scroll up: car i'm looking at is a 2003 6MT coupe with about 46k miles on it)

most of the common problems are taken care of by TSB.. and as far as i know there are no common issues that would lead to the destruction of the car/motor/etc.

take it by a dealer or mechanic that works with Gs often and have them look over it thoroughly.

good luck!

I have on '03 also with brembos and not had any problems.

and mine is for sale also sorta (dont want to sell it, but i should to help with me going back to school and condensing debt/costs)....but I am looking to get a little more for mine since I am trying to sell it as is if I sell it.....

but dont be afraid of an '03 vs '04....i hav ehad no problems at all and am still on my original brakes...about to replace with Hawks more for low dust than absolute need. No troubles that I can think of so far with mine.
