Default Insurance cheaper for G or Z?

I'm planning to buy a G35 or a 350Z in a few months or so but I was wondering which insurance would be cheaper. I'm assuming that luxury should be cheaper than sports cars but I'm not quite sure. Can anybody shed light on this? Thanks!

i think the Z is cheaper, it has less passenger room, hence less injuries

stupidest thing i've heard.....no offense.

z is a 2 seat sports car, g is a 4 seat coupe.

g is 30$ a month cheaper for me through state farm. 72$ a month for the G, it was 110$ a month for the same year/build Z.

also, the G comes with more safety features standard like curtain airbags and such. It's a level 4 safety rating from state farm, the Z is only a level 1.

Not sure, but it can't be by much. My Z costs the same as my maxima to insure.

ok, just a guess, I still haven't figured out why the mustang GT is 500 a year more than the Z ( i figured 2 more cylynders and 2 more seats made the difference)

I can't imagine the G being THAT much safer than the Z, considering they are virtually identical, from a structural POV. My Z has side airbags as well.

I've been with my insurance company for 19 years with no "at fault" accidents. Rear-ended two years ago but then nothing but a ticket since I was sixteen. I have a pioneer rating now and blah blah. They sent me a letter notifying me of the low curb weight and high horsepower of the Z when I got it insured. They also included that they do not make a habit of insuring these vehicles. (NICE) They take all kinds of things into consideration like:
  1. cost of replacement parts in case of an accident
  2. the nationwide theft rate including claims of vandalism
  3. safety features including airbags and other assorted things designed to keep them from paying death benefits
  4. the performance of the vehicle (two seater's automatically get a sports car classification in most companies ratings systems)
  5. your driving record
  6. the levels of coverage for specific situations when you are involved with an claimable accident

that makes it pretty hard to compare prices of premiums with others besides yourself

Insurance on my Z is cheaper than what it would have been for a G. Maybe because I'm young and i dont have more people in the car? Who knows..just my input.

My Z was way cheaper to insure than the civic ex '04 I had before and way cheaper to insure than the '06 civic si I was midly considering. Biggest factor? Those things are stolen like crazy, Z and G's aren't targeted by thieves thankfully. Maximas and g35 sedans are targeted more even.

I'm an Allstate Agent in NJ. I have both an 06' Z Roadster and an 06' G35 coupe. In NJ, they are the same premium. I pay $1800 for each, give or take a couple of $$.
It will vary from state to state, driver by driver and use by use.

it doesn't factor in how many people you have in the vehicle. that's subjective. otherwise my suburban would be double my G because it seats 8. they can't assume you'll have the seats full all the time.

and yes, you can get side curtains on Z's...they might be standard but i know when i looked at 03-04 they weren't which is why they are a lower safety rating than the G for state farm. also depends on their crash rating from the manufacturer.

i guess other companies might weight the cost of fixing the car more than the 2 seat sports part in which the G would be a little more. more expensive parts.

I just know 72$ a month for my G and 110$ a month for the Z was a huge difference. and the Z was a touring edition if that helps. what insurance company are you using?

When I was looking at both cars, I called USAA on two different VINs. One was a 2003 touring Z and the other was a 2003 G35 with premium pack. The G35 cost like $4 more over six months. It was really no difference. Insurance costs aren't just about mortality rates. They also include how much it costs to replace damaged parts. Since the G and Z overlap in costs, and safety, insurance should be about the same or close to the same. I have a 2005 Volvo XC70, which you'd think is safer, but costs me more to insure simply because I paid $10K more for it.
