I really want the suspension and the engine of that car. Anyone think the 3.7 tranny will bolt up to our 3.5 as I hear the tranny is stronger, faster and more performance oriented?

the only things I like are the performance stuff, visually, it doesn't do it for me

I can't wait to swap those brakes to my 06

Maybe we could make it a group thing and steal a couple new G's and swap out the tranny, motor and brakes during the night... they won't notice.

No, the tranny will not bolt up to a VQ35DE, sorry

No kidding? Right up there with the same folks who brought us "quart per 500 miles is normal for oil usage" in the M3 gen-2, cars that eat their top end at 23k miles (330i long term test car, Automobile Mag or C&D, no oil in the top end, new cams, valves, etc.). I prefer my cars to keep running, warranty or not. Imagine how cooked the inside of that engine is...

Anyone who has ever lived anywhere near PHX would laugh at the idea that it's really hot in early March, give me a break. Maybe 90 deg F, 100 comes along in April. Any high perf coupe should be able to do hot laps out there no problem, not other than the usual track driving abuse of brakes, etc. Another good quote: "It's hard to top the looks of the original G35. Luckily, Infiniti has retained the original car's low, wide proportions."

I don't care for the new interior with the smaller speedo and tach so they can put a stupid display between the two, when you already have the big screen 24x7 in the middle (prefer to put that away when I don't need it in my '04 G). Showing light gray leather on darker gray is really stupid, about the worst combo for colors I can think of. It looks close enough to the current model that it will sell. Faster? Yep. Better looking? No way.

More like 350 hp compared the former SAE ratings - what's the GT-R coming in at - mid 400's? Even the VQHR35 revs faster and higher in each gear, it is definitely more refined that the VQ35DE. Drove a new one last week in a Sedan, the engine was great with the dual intakes, noticeable bump.

On paper Nissan is claiming 330hp, say at face value the 280 hp they claimed for the G35 Coupe '04 like mine is true (I question that when it hit 242 whp stock on the dynojet) - modestly, more than 50 hp increase for the same price is pretty damn nice. $37-40k has been quoted to get you into a new G37, well-equipped. For only another $30k or so I could get a GT-R? Sorry, if I head into that territory the only draw for me is a GT3 at ~$100k. Hopefully the GT-R will make me eat those words soon

The bigger question is "How much would I have to spend in mods to match that?", then you can start to appreciate how much more that is than the VQ35DE. Even staying NA, that's still probably easily $5k if not $10k to push a VQ35DE over 300 whp.

Given my G Coupe has book value (bank/dealer) of over $25k (and a KBB and retail more than that), at a little over 3 years and 35k miles, why wouldn't I just start with a new coupe for that $10k and build from there? (one thing I have to say is the Infiniti badge, BS that it is, they hold value better than comparable Nissan-badged cars, stupid but I don't dream up those rules).

The one big reason is I really don't think this is a better looking car, it's a small step back in the exterior styling, especially in the front to rear transition and the rear itself. Ugh, I expected something much more wicked looking than what I already drive.

reminds me of Colnago bicycles - most logos per sq in on any frame I have ever seen, counted 39 on one frame plus parts on one my 1990's racing bikes (human power kind)

Hmm if they keep curb weight under 3650 lbs this thing might run low 13's and 0-60 in well under 5.

That explains the max speed in gears remaining the same pretty much, but at over 7000 rpm. Does it make sense that this means you are in the max power band earlier w/re to mph?

For track use often I'd like to squeeze another 500-1000 revs in same gear for those damn inconvenient times when you run out of revs in 2nd or 3rd with the VQ35, in corners when shifting isn't an attractive option and neither is hitting the rev limiter. So, you either go slower than you could, or lose speed shifting. Same for speed in 4th - too low.

Since swapping trans gears or diff gears for casual track days is a bit extreme, when I saw the HR I was hoping to get a little more mph out of 2/3/4 instead of screaming up to 60 in 2nd at >7000 rpm just to make marketing times for 0-60...
