If you goto TireRack.com, they have the recommended wheel widths for each tire and the max recommended.

My G35 isn't due to be delivered until next week, so I don't have first hand experience, but FWIW, I will pass on what I have read in the various forums. I have not heard of anyone having the rubber rub on stock wheels, so the limit seems to be what size will fit the wheels. The stock 18" wheels are listed as 8" wide, but some people have said that they actually measure over 8.5" or nearly 9". You can go to www.michelin.com or www.tirerack.com and find tables for each tire that include recommended rim widths for each tire size. For Pilot Sports, the 255 width sizes recommend at least an 8" or 8.5" wheel. The 275 widths call for at least a 9" wide wheel. Some people on G35driver.com have reported using 245/40/18 front and 275/40/18 rears on the stock rims without problems. I would guess that 275 width on the rears would have the rubber tapering out quite a bit from the rim to the tread. You might not like the way it looks and there might be increased tread wear in the center of the tire tread. HTH

Sorry to dig up an old post, but I found this in a search and wanted to clarify the tire size for the archives...

The OEM 18" wheels on a '04 G35 Coupe measured to be exactly 8 inches wide on the front and rear. Here's a link to pictures.

A tire width of 275 is a bit wide for an 8" rim according to every tire manufacturer I've referenced. That said, I have 275/40/18 Pirelli PZero Nero M+ S tires on the OEM G35C 18 x 8 wheels. They do bulge a bit at the side and appear to have a slight crown at the top of the tire (tread arches up a little). I have about 5k miles on them now and the treadwear is even so far.

The PZero is listed as having a 10.8 inch section width (width at widest point IIRC), so it is a narrow 275 compared to some other tires. That's an important point. A Kumho MX with an 11" section width might be a bit too wide to consider--I know a 1/4 inch doesn't seem like much, but if a 275 is already too big, then another 1/4 inch might be enough to cause abnormal wear (wearing in the middle where the tire is crowning).

I shot some pictures in the garage, but they aren't great--for 3 days now it seems like it's been raining everytime I try to go out and shoot pics.

For a tire with a 10.8 inch section width it doesn't look too wide in this pic.

LaCartus, how do you feel the Pzeros compare to the OEM tires on your G (Pilot Sports I'm assuming)? The Pzero Nero M+S is SOOOOO cheap in the 245/275 stagger size that it's really tempting. Especially for us Z owners who will be replacing front tires on a very regular basis.

The 275 PZero Nero M+S seem to provide as much (if not a little more) traction in the rear on dry pavement. On wet roads they don't feel any worse than the OEM 245/45/18 Michelin Pilots. In standing water (puddles) the PZeros feel better than the OEM Pilots, perhaps the M+S tread displaces water better. I haven't tried them in the snow...hoping to only use them in the slush after most of the snow has been cleaned-up.
