if its a 99 996 w/3.4 liter engine, its not THAT fast. If its a 2002+ with the 3.6 engine it might be different. Seriously the G37, although heavier isn't that overmatched with what 330hp? I considered a 2001 996 before choosing the Z, about 15k cheaper and way more reliable, a new porsche engine isn't cheap (11k), but you never hear of people blowing stock Nissan engines.

why are we comparing against a previous gen. 996 carrera? this states absolutely nothing...on top of everyone's observation on poor driving ability and lack of effort on the part of the Porsche driver

yeah the only real fast 996 is the 996gt2. most people get these 2 cars mixed up. its the comparing the 330i to the m3. but its good to know that the g37 with it being heavier then the g35 it can still get around a tight little track

You guys need to get some Porsche IQ. The GTR is compared to a 997 Turbo.. the car in the video is a base 996 carrera (ie non turbo). It still would be a bit quicker than a g37 but not grossly so. 300 to 330ish HP and 3100ish pounds on the porsche compared to 330HP and 3650ish pounds on the G37. The chassis I'm sure on the 911 is better and the suspension I can't really say.
I understand the Porsche worship but until you cross the 100k range a 911 isn't all that special... ie you gotta get a turbo or a GT3. However, once you do cross 100k .. it does become very very special.

guys, don't forget there are the 297 HP versions of the 996 as well.
There was a comparo test with the Z06, Z, 911 and M3 SMG.
The Z on that day had horrible 1/4 times, etc....BUT it beat the M and 911 (which had some optional bigger tire package) on the actual track. This was the 320 HP version of the 996 compared to a 287 HP Z.
here is the link

again, notice the tire size of the 911 VS the Z
