I'm from the g35 forums. To me. The 03 sucks. First year always bad. 04 and 05 about the same except interior. 06 and 07 same. Just with better body parts. The brembos actually sucks that's why it wasn't an option in 05. I hate how infiniti improves the g.

I'd advise you to advise her that advice, when you are asking for it, is spelled as such: advice
as in "gf is buying a G and I need advice"

I have a TT 350Z and the wife just bought a '10 G37. I'd advise () to simply research the known issues for that year model and address them prior to purchase. That is all!

So much fail in this thread. Well first off Infiniti's basic powertrain warranty is 6/70k miles. I have an 05 minus the revup and it's been an excellent car. We bought it with 63k miles and it's now at 78k miles and it's been nothing but trouble free just like my 06 350Z. If you're going to be afraid to buy an oil consumption car don't buy a Z or G because honestly every years has some problem.

I love these cars to death and will die in a Nissan FM platform car.

^I have a 03 that has never required a drop of extra oil...

I appreciate the heads up on the warranty though!

This should help:

1st Generation Coupe
2003-2004 G35 coupe 6MT/5AT: VQ35DE, 3.5L, 280hp, 6600rpm redline
2005-2007 G35 coupe 6MT: VQ35DE, 3.5L "rev-up", 298hp, 7100rpm redline
2005-2007 G35 coupe 5AT: VQ35DE, 3.5L, 280hp, 6600 redline (same engine as the 03/04's)

2nd Generation Coupe
2008-2010 G37 coupe 6MT/7AT/5AT->(2008 only): VQ37HR, 3.7L, 330hp, 7500rpm redline

1st Generation Sedan
2003-2004 G35 sedan 6MT/5AT: VQ35DE, 3.5L, 260hp, 6600rpm redline
2005-2006 G35 sedan 6MT: VQ35DE, 3.5L "rev-up", 298hp, 7100rpm redline
2005-2006 G35 sedan 5AT: VQ35DE, 3.5L, 280hp, 6600rpm redline (same engine as the 03/04's, the 260hp in the 03/04's is underrated, and the 280hp in the 05/06 5AT's is overrated)

2nd Generation Sedan
2007-2008 G35 sedan 6MT/5AT: VQ35HR, 3.5L, 306hp, 7500rpm redline
2009-2010 G37 sedan 6MT/7AT: VQ37HR, 3.7L, 328hp, 7500rpm redline

1) The G35 coupe was made from 03-07.

2) The old G35 sedan was made from 03-06, but in 07 they introduced the new (current) body style.

3) The G35 coupe was replaced by the G37 coupe in 2008.

4) The second generation G35 sedan was replaced by the G37 sedan in 2009.

The rev-up engine is known to have oil consumption issues (rev-ups only come with the 6MT in 05/06). The redesigned 2007 G35 sedan has the HR engine (both MT and AT). This new design is far superior to the rev-up/DE engines from 03-06, and the sedan will run 13.5-13.8@100-103 stock.

The 2007 sedan was the first year of the second generation G35's. The HR is dead reliable, and many of the issues from Gen 1 G35's have been completely resolved.
