03 and 04 G35 Tranny Changes*!
Went to the infiniti dealer to test and 04!
and its much smoother to shift in...but has the same tranny so i went to the service guys and they told me this!
03 have manual support for shifting to give a "sport car feel"
04 have hydrolic support for shifting so its smoother....
Infiniti says they will not retro fit the system on to any 03's unless enough 03 owners complain about it...so ruffly 3,000 people have to complain....

I don't mind the gerabox at all, I really like the feel. My only problem is the rather wide gate between 4th and 5th, if your not careful and really don't push hard right, you'll end up back in third. Not a good thing.

yup... i got an 04. the thing feels consistent in every gear. I love it! My 03 Z required a lot of effort to shift... not a bad thing on a sports car though.

Sounds like you did what I am considering, moving from my 350Z into the G35 - what was your "lemon" issue?
Thanks,
Steve T.

Mostly curious because I am considering the same move, just not for lemon reasons.

SteveZ - You don't want to know what I went through with that car.
It's not just things that went wrong with it, its a lot of bad things happened that made me not want the car anymore.
Windshield smashed, car broken into 2x, hit pothole too hard, lots of damage, tranny needed replacing 3x, tire feathering, clicking windows, greasy window streaks, premature seat wear, and the worst... the steering locked up on the highway.
so far, so good with the g35. 2400 miles, nothing to report except a minor rattle coming from the rear when the radio is at high volumes.

Looks like I will be owning a new '04 G35 Sport Coupe early next week, very impressed with the package they put together for me. I haven't done the exact comparison but to load up a 350Z Touring or Track with similar I think end up more $$$.
The tranny is somewhat smoother, but its also new, what really stood out was how smooth the clutch is.
First time other than a P/U or other I almost went Auto, what a good shifting tranny that seems to be. In the end the retro in me said "6MT, 6MT"...
Nothing against my current 350Z, just things change over time. Only problem I had was the funky tire wear in the first 7k miles. Still there after 4k more, but far less after alignment (first and likely only one since it left Japan).
Have 2 kids, 8 and 12, really looking forward to taking them *both* for a ride at the same time
steve - the tranny feels exactly the same from the first day I drove it off the lot. Clutch feels a wee bit harder than the mid-03 build z's, but still nothing like the clutch I had in my Z. That thing was like a muscle car clutch, grabs 5 inches off the floor and takes maximum leg pressure to engage. Ask daking350, i believe he knows what i'm talking about
he saw my car before i traded it in.
