Default Newbie needs help! 3 or G?

Whats happening board! I need help. I got my money right I got my credit up to par now I need to make a decision. 3 or G!?! Other that the back seat I need some info from another prespective other than the dealer trying to sell me a car. Is the any technical and experienced info that you guys can offer to help me decide. Im not a new nissan owner but this would be my first car from them. I got a solid 98 Pathy. That has held up great. So I decided to say screw the Vette and go with the Nissan. Again I ask. 3 or G? To be honest Im going to take this info into SERIOUS consideration.
Im also going to post this on the 350Z section of the board so come join the debate over there also. Ill also inform them that I posted over here.
I REALLY REALLY need some pros and cons guys. Thanks in advance for the advice. Lets talk!

I (as I'm sure most) was faced with this same dilema. It seems to me that if you compare the same priced vehicles (meaning G35c vs 325ci, not 330ci which costs more, nor the M3 which costs much more), the G35c can be considered 60% performance, 40% luxury and the 325ci 60% luxury and 40% performance, so which is more important to you? Personally, the G35c is a much better looking car and there's simply too many 3-series around (Washington state). Infiniti has much higher reliability/quality ratings than BMW. For me, the decision was easy. However, you should definately check out both vehicles first hand rather than deciding on other people's opinions. The only difficulty (assuming you want a stick) will be finding a 6mt to test drive.

Calling 350Z a "3" shows that you have no love for the car. I don't want a f***ing noob calling my car a "3".

98 Pathy? Wtf? I have tons of goosebumps for sale.

Whoa, hold up a second. Your getting flamed by Z owners not G owners. The first poster made an honest mistake because your title wasn't clear and the BMW 3 series is the most popular comparison for the G.

I have never driven a Z so I can't really give you any personal experience just things I have picked up from reading this forum.
Most of the pros and cons of these cars are purely subjective. The Z has a stiffer suspension and shorter wheelbase - pro or con? It really depends on what you are looking for in a car.
You really need to drive both cars to get a feel for what you want. Mechanically they both should hold up great, although you might get better service/loaner cars from Infiniti if you care about that kind of thing. Also if you do a search this debate has been covered numerous times.

Thanks 1Nate7. I've driven both. Sorry about the 3 thing. And yes, what Im really looking for is info on the mechanical durability of both. The dealer at the Infinity (today) was kind of a tight a*s so I couldnt really get into the G like I did at the nissan dealership, the dealer actually incouraged "test drive" it.

if you want z performance with a rear seat and a usable trunk, go for the g35.

So what you are saying that tit for tat they are IDENTICAL in preformance? I read once that the Gs get more RWHP than the Z. Whats it a lie?

Since you've driven both, what are your impressions so far? I have almost 18k miles on my G with no problems so far. Only maintenance cost has been oil changes every 3,750.

Most of the early problems with the Z have been fixed (bouncy ride, tire feathering) so you should be fine. The G has some issues as well (grease streaks on the windows - I believe some Z's have this as well, non-Brembo brakes wear prematurely - now covered under warranty for 3 yrs, 36k I believe). With Infiniti you get a longer bumper to bumper warranty, 4 yrs or 48k vs. Nissan 3 yrs or 36k.

For me the G was a better value. I got a base 6 speed with Brembos and leather for MSRP at 32.5k. Also, I really liked the G 18" wheels and they come with Michelin Pilot Sports, very nice tires although mine are almost worn out. You might be able to get some $$ off MSRP now depending where you live.

As for mechanically, its basically the same engine. A few Z and G owners have had transmission problems, but it seems to be a very small percentage. If you properly maintain it, either one should last for a very long time.

I wouldn't say they are identical in performance, but they are very close. As for RWHP, it depends on the car and the dyno. The Z's lighter weight and stiffer suspension should give it the edge cornering. Realistically on the street the performance difference would be hard to distinguish. They would have a different feel, so its up to you to make that decision.

NATE MAN, I LOVE YA! Thanks fore ya oponion. What I liked about the G was the sound of it. Beyond that I couldnt tell ya cause the salesman was acting like a lil B'otch about digging into it. On the G I like the headlights better and the tail lights. On the Z I liked how it hugged the curb in a right hand turn at about 35. Nothing major I know but it still impressed me. I liked the overall feel of the Z, being inside gives you that real sports car felling(yanno the 2 seater fell). I will admit the G looks alot better that the Z (with the spoiler only) but the Z still impresses me.

I've driven 3 Z cars & had 1 on order for 2 months. I got thinking about the G yesterday and went and drove one. I thought the power to be about the same. I thought the ride in the G was better & it had a better over feeling of quality IMO (not trying to start an argument).
Price was the same as the track model.
But the G with a manual comes with the brembo's, Leather heated seats, moon roof, Bose stereo and more room as the body is about 1 foot longer. Wheel base is 8 inches longer, but it weighs the same.
I bought it tonight and will pick it up Fri. as it was not prepped yet. I can't wait!!!!!!!!!
I think the Z comes across as more of a sports car since its a 2 seater. But I liked the room better.
Good luck with your decision,
Chris

WAY TO GO CHRIS!!! Good luck with the G man. The roof sounds VERY appealing. I wonder if Nissan will ever put T-Tops on the Z. When you drove it haw was yor test ride. Did you get into it?

I was a little reluctant to get into it as it only had 20 miles on it & figuring I was going to buy.
Hum, just the wife and I on the test drive. Had an open spot on the freeway. Found out 6th@3400=100mph. It felt like it was just comming on and was so smooth I thought I could just get it the back and let it go. The wife yelling "THEY TAKE YOU IN OVER 100MPH!!!"
So then I get up this am and it looks like were going to have about a foot of snow, so I don't know when I'll pick it up. Frustrating to say the least.
