Nice intresting race i must say.

It was my gf's friends car. Its a gti 1.8t. From what i know he has exhuast, CAI, chipped, downpipe and pulleys and probally some others.

All i have is ztube and jwt pop charger and its a 6mt coupe.

Anyhow, for some odd reason, turbo has always made me scared as hell. Everytime i think of turbo i think fassst espically them VW's and Audis when they are chipped.

Anyhow, i wanted to see how i went up against him. He told me he beat a AT coupe by half a car and i was thinking in my head "oh **** imma get my *** handed to me."

So i asked him to race for fun. He kindly agreed =) So we set out to race. My car had been out in the cold for hours! It was 48-50 degress outside. Being my stock tires took forever to warm up i had no traction what so ever.

We raced 3 times. It was almost 1/4 distance everytime.
1st race: Bad launch due to traction and mishifted from 3-4 so i went from 3-2 =( My rpms went all the way to 8! So whooped me on me bad there. Beat me about 1 car length if not more.

2nd race: Decent launch but tires were still cold. 1-2nd gear i was pulling on him hard. I was at least 1 car length ahead of him during the pull. My car didnt chip during the shift but instead my tires started skidding. But as soon as the turbo kicked in for the gti he started to catch up. I stoped by the middle of 4th gear because of the red light and my friends who were watch said i beat him by at least half a car.

3rd race: Launch was better because tired were getting warmer but not much warmer but i could tell the difference. 1-2nd gear i pulled on him a little harder because i heard a little chirp and my tires had gotten better traction. This time i ended the race a little early because i knew who would have been the winner because it was obvious. I stopped the race at the begging of 4th gear. I was up ahead of him around 3/4 of a car length because i could i can almost see his whole car with my side mirrors (i used that as measurment on how much space i have between cars).

As soon as we made a left turn and parked to meet friends back up and chatted, 3mins later a police came flying by with the siren on! Lucky ducks we were.

I was definitly a nice and intresting race. We was cool enough to let me compete against him. With that said, i kinda makes me wonder what i would get in my 1/4 times. I will find out soon as soon as i get time to head to the tracks. Modded GTI's has ummph! If he had a turbo upgrade i would be seeing his taillights!

Factory turbo cars are great for modding. Good race. Keep it safe.

 

good race! i have a friend with a modded 1.8t jetta, and has about the same mods that you listed for the gti. We both have 5at's. I've never raced him before but i drove his car, and although it seemed very quick, much quicker than my chipped a4, it didn't seem as fast as my Z. I wonder what the outcome would be.

 

Those 1.8Ts with exhaust, intake, and ECU chip mod seriously can lay down 230+ lb/ft torque at the WHEELS at pretty low RPM! No BS...I've seen these things dyno before because I myself am a VW/Audi enthusiast as well. While the stock KO3 Hybrid turbo doesn't have much breathing room up top, it pumps out great bottom end power once the turbo spools. Great little cars they are, but no matter how fast they can be made, they're still front drive cars with major torque steer
