Default installed z tube.

So... I didn't even know you could do this until I read some threads about it on here today. But, I had my old intake becuase I had the nismo cai on my z so I decided to put the tube on. I don't think I noticed any power difference. And... don't think that I was supposed to but it does sound pretty cool and heck... it was free. Took about 10 minutes to do the whole thing.

I'm surprised you didn't notice ANY power increase. I installed the Z Tube/Pop Charger in my G and there is a definitely little kick upwards of 4000 RPMs. And don't forget the nice whistle the Pop Charger makes.

Cool, so I'm assuming you have a G35 now?

Yeah, I did notice that whistle noise. Sounds kinda cool I also only have 400 miles on my car so I haven't got on the throttle too much. Maybe later on after its broke in. But... I wouldn't have anything to compare it to.

Oh wow! Didn't realize you were still in the break in period. It's not FI or anything but at WOT you'll definitely feel more pull than stock. But like you said, you'll have no basis for comparison. Have fun with it!

I do have a pretty good idea of what it should be like after driving my 350Z.

Just for clarification the Z tube you talk of is the 350Z intake tube that runs from the MAFS to the TB? If so, how is it different from the G35 tube? They are both black plastic with flex sections right?

The G35 air tube has 2 air bafflers built into them. And they do there job of...baffling the air? The stock G35 air filter box also has 1 air baffler connected to it for a total of 3. By doing a Z Tube/Pop Charger mod, you eliminate all 3 of those air bafflers. Here are some pics of the G35 stock air tube (it's my old one )

This is the hole for the baffler connected to the air box.

I didn't do much for break-in period, accidentally hit almost redline with <100 miles on the car. At 2000 miles, Dynojet showed 235 whp @5900 rpm, 224 ft-lbs @4800, both power corrected. Honest numbers, no inflation, and even assuming 15% loss, makes for good crank hp rating.

I was much easier on the Z (1100 miles break-in) and if anything, my G engine pulls stronger to me (stock).

On to the tube - on same dyno, tube shows +5 wheel hp over stock baffle (with before and after numbers to show it)

Had no idea that resonator-baffle thing was so huge, can't see the down-piece in the car. Whats the point? Make it more quiet? Change exhaust note? Stupid 2 me.

I forgot

I'll have to check my setup now and see what it's connected to.

That is for your crank case breather hose. When people get oil catch cans it goes in line with that hose.

My guess is that they serve 2 functions; slightly quieter operation and a stronger torque curve at the lower revs.
The dyno's I've seen posted on other boards suggest a small hp gain at the upper RPM's but a loss of at least a dozen or so ft/lbs at the lower range *with* the Z-tube.
So the G's (with the standard intake) have more torque in the lower (and some might argue average driving range) revs. Marketing choices by the product planners?
