Default Borla td INSTALLED............. questions to follow

fellas-

have the borla TD system installed and running

the fit is spot on (due to the many clamps to adjust i guess!!lol)

the tips are like coffee cans (me likes!...4.5") and the tone is VERY civil and deep...

this is where i am a bit unsure....

will this tone break in at all?? can i expect anymore sound transmission (or with the FI, will it amplify the sound at all?)

i am almost thinking this might be too quiet for my taste, and, if it doesnt break in much or change, well........ (pm me if interested!)

i guess i need to rack some miles before i make any decisions...

please help me out with any opinions/experiences on this... the exhaust is kinda like the signature of our cars (aside from wheels) and i want mine to be a bit more stated than i think it is...

it does get louder after a while, but if ur looking for more sound the borla isnt the loudest. dollar99 has had the vortech blower kit and borla for quite a while now and its nice.... but it just kinda reminds me of the stock sound. i've got the injen now w/o fi and its much louder than his. if ur looking for that subtle non ricey sound the borla is an excellent choice. the borla has much better fitment than the injen too.

thanks huducks.......

what i REALLY liked about the oem system was the gearing/whirling sound overshadowing the exhaust till 3200 rpm, then the exhaust had a very sweet gargle sound at exactly 3200....

it seems to be changed from that now, with no distinct gargle zone

((does this make any sense??))

here's the borla twins at the dealership today....

the big blue has the gen1 borla TD, with borla headers (testpipes on tomorrow), injen CAI with heat-wrap tape, and kinetix on the way.....

sounds more aggressive than mine, but has a 'rasp' sound at the 3200rpm zone, i didnt much like...

looks like my dealer is now jumping into the performance side of things......

never liked the raspy sound personally. i think i remember the gargle sound ur talking about.... sorry haven't heard a stock g exhaust in a while it was nice but restrictive. many have been satisfied w/the borla because it maintains the stock configuration while increasing power. i was torn between the borla and injen when it came time to decide but i just like the way the injen looks. which dealer do u work at esemes??

esemes, if things don't work with the Borla setup, you have a definite buyer in Ft.Lauderdale, FL....

You have anything else done to the G? I was looking into ordering the BORLA setup and the K&N Typhoon CAI...

Default resonating

My Borla resonates around 2000 rpm. Sort of a boomy resonance.

It did get louder after a few hundred miles, but it stays pretty quiet.

Default Single walls

If you go with single wall slash cuts (which would look REALLY cool) just be sure to leave some clearance between the bumper cover and the pipes.

Even the double wall borla tips get REALLY hot if you drive hard. With a single wall I wouldn't want it too close to the plastic bumper parts.

Still, it would look cool.

expect to pay less than the 930 retail price (coupe TD system)

i think the MSRP is overinflated, for the re-sellers' sake.....

heres an auction for one..........

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...ayphotohosting

i have felt no diff. below 2K (cept a deeper sound) and minor improvement over 2900rpm's.....

i got mine b-cause i have a vortech on the way, andd needed to free the line up some.... i tried testpipes first, but am not interested in the very loud sound they prodiuce.. (may go with kinetix h/f cats eventually)

Put a set of Crawford Cats on it for a little more sound, and less restriction. My fabricated dual system had a resonance too. I don't know why, but after I put the Crawford's on, the resonance disappeared. The system now sounds great, very mellow with a growl.

The tone will change with modifications. The way you described the gearing, whirling sound with the stock exhaust is definitely gone. I did like that sound, it sort of reminded me of a tamer Ferrari like sound. I know, I know, don't bother going there, it's the only sound I can remotely compare it to, even if it's not the best comparison.

But, I'm much happier with the Borla sound. The TD Borla makes a beautiful, deep, throaty sound from 2,000 and lower. Through the powerband, the sound reminds me of a V8 which works for me since I love old school muscle cars. Add testpipes with resonators or highflow cats and the volume turns up. I have no idea whether FI will increase the volume even more but I can't see how it wouldn't. However, if you're going with a supercharger, I would think the belt-jet-sound would be more prominent.

From the meets I've attended, I like Borla and the RS*Rs. But, RS*R or Apex N1 type exhausts are pretty damn loud. Too much attention for my taste.

I think you made an overall good choice and that you will come to appreciate the sound over time. I know I have - enough that I'm spending time to post about this even after having had the exhaust installed for over a year.

So what is the update, Esemes?

You better think of me first if you think about selling the Borla. I'm going to need something later this year. Sounds like you will keep it though. For now anyway. LOL

sold it a week ago"gilley"

i have (one order from JPN) the fujitsubo Y pipe and exhaust system (with resonator and midpipe)......

i think tyhis system (while not TD) will be best suited for the blower....

will be here the secound week in june, unfortunately.....

i also ditched my "z-tube" (same guy, "IAN".... lives in orlando, and knows the hook-ups for the clubs and meets!!) since it'll serve me no benefit.....

maybe you want my oem plenum?? (went crawford v5...)

i have a ton of led barrel lights leftover too (perfect for the G... extras from the FX)

Glad you sold it then. I couldn't ask you to hold on to it long enough for me to get it. Why don't you just figure out what works for the both of us. ; )
