Why is the 6MT more expensive than the 5AT?
I was researching how much it would cost me if I buy a new G, and I learned that the 6 speed manual is actually about $1500 more canadian than the 5AT.
I dont know about you guys, but in the past when I have bought my cars, the Automatic transmissions always cost about $1000 more than the manual cars. I find it weird that a manual car is actually more expensive than an auto.
I only will buy manual cars, so I am trying to figure out why there is such a big price jump. Am I missing something?

I can only guess it is because 1) it is a 6 speed rather than a 5 speed 2) most sport cars owners want a manual so they assume you will pay the extra or 3) the real cost of making this tranmission justifies the price bump.

The 6MT comes with about $2000 worth of Brembo Brakes; the auto does not.
The 6MT comes with about $4800 worth of 18" rims and Michelin Pilot Sports; the auto comes with much cheaper 17" rims and tires, which are not as good.
The 6MT comes standard with a Limited Slip Differential; I think you need to get the sport package for the auto to get this feature.
The 6MT fits a "sports car" image; the auto does not. This may be somewhat subjective to some people, but to most sports car enthusiasts this is considered gospel.
IMO, the 6MT is the better deal of the two when you consider the price difference for what you end up getting. It is also the one that dealerships seem to deal the least on.

I am a manual tranny guy also. My logic in this is why get a automatic transmission and suffer the losses that go with it when you can get a manual and gain the benefits. I thought in a race car you wanted to maximize power? But I guess since NASCAR and dragsters use automatic trannys.... oh wait....
