2005 G35 Equipped with NISMO S1 Engine?
It has been generally hypothesized that the 2005 G35 6MT achieves 18 more HP through a different plenum and ECU. Recently, there has been some speculation that the increased horsepower figures may belie some radical new changes to the engine. In particular, some believe that the 2005 G35 6MT may be equipped with the NISMO S1 engine, which this R&T article describes:

I personally think the speculation is BS. It wouldn't make sense to assemble a dramatically different engine for a single model across the entire G35 line. I also think that such improvements are inconsistent with the exclusion of the Brembos on the 6MTs and the seeming neglect of the 350Z. Nevertheless, it is an intriguing possibility...
Does anyone have any more information on what specific changes were made to the 2005 6MT engine?

Residing there is Nismo's S1 engine that produces an impressive 300 bhp at 6400 rpm and 268 lb.-ft. of torque at 4400.
The S1 is basically a pumped-up version of the 3.5-liter V-6 powerplant in the 350Z. Nismo engineers took apart the base VQ V-6 and rebuilt it using more than a dozen new parts — including new camshafts, revised ECU, freer-flowing intake and exhaust, heavy-duty clutch, a lightweight flywheel and reinforced valve springs and connecting rods. The result is a powerplant that's virtually race-ready, with excellent power delivery and throttle response throughout the rev range. It has a better top end, too, with the engine's redline extended from 6600 to 7200 rpm.

OK, I'm reviving this thread in light of the recent release of official information by Nissan/Infiniti.
Higher redline..."structural improvements"...it certainly sounds like some components from the NISMO S1 made it into the 2005 G35...
Infiniti Press Release Excerpt:
The G35 Coupe 6MT model receives an additional 18-plus horsepower and a red line increase to 7,000 rpm compared to the automatic transmission-equipped G35 coupes’ standard 280 horsepower and 6,600 rev limit, bringing its power to 298-horsepower. The extra power comes from the addition of electronic exhaust valve timing and numerous structural improvements to the engine block. Torque is rated at 270 lb-ft for the G35 Coupe and 260 lb-ft for the G35 Coupe 6MT.

Damn
*** electronic exhaust valve timing ***
On the original Pre-Order lists we were told that they would have variable timing on both intake and exhaust for the 350Z. At the time of delivery it turned out that this was just being used on the intake. These bastiches were saving this for future VQ engine refreshes. *bah* The G35's are being delivered with the engine that the 2003 350Z's *should* have had. (yes this was an issue that I had in September 2002).

I'm just wondering - was I the first person to make this prediction? (though I guess I wasn't very convinced at first)
Shiva (apologizes if that sounded conceited)

It differentiates the G from the Z even more than just back seats, 300lbs and interior. That and it also gives one more incentive to buy the Track other than brembos and rims.

I read that only a special "Sport" edition version of the "05 G35 Coupe will get the aforementioned power increase. All other versions of the G coupe are supposed to come w/the regular 280hp VQ. The paragraph that I read also claimed that the optional higher power motor will not be available with an automatic tranny. Is this ringin' a bell for anyone? I was half asleep when I read it so I might be mistaken. I believe it was in the new Motor Trend or one of those new car buyer guides.
