Which Headers Are Smog Legal?
I'm not 100% sure on this but it seems like they would have to if something as trivial as an intake needs to have CARB approval like the JWT Popcharger. But, someone please clarify who knows...
I wouldn't think they need to have it. I never checked about carb and smog stuff with y pipe and my CAI. I would only worry about it if you are modifying the internals or removing something that was stock. Like the catalytic converters. I'm thought aftermarket headers increased air flow.
Some information on CARB approval.
If you do not live in Cali...do not worry about it.
But if you live in Cali, CARB approval is needed for any engine modification that lies in the path BEFORE the catalitic converter. This includes, intakes and headers, but not "cat-back" exhausts. Our headers have been submitted for CARB approval and are pending. We should have the green light in about 4-6 weeks at a cost of several thousands of dollars.

If you run the headers with the stock cats or even high flow cats it will pass on a sniffer...
The headers are very hard to see on the VQ35 so most likely only the headers will pass a visual...
The High FLow Cats will not pass visual in most states even though they are carb certified because they only have 1 cat per pipe unlike the 2 per pipe on the stock cats... I believe for cars with over 50000 miles on them (ME) you can use any cats.
