Default Test Pipes: Feel Bad b/c it Pollutes?

It creates more pollution, and it stinks.

It's probably more harzardous for your health.

How do ya'll daily drivers do it?

I'd just get a high flo cat.

I have the same question! Am I going to die a slow early death? Will I get cancer from breathing this crap? Test pipes are the best for hp high flow cats are still clogged up. Dont have good air flow.
But are these test pipes hazardous to my health? Does anyone know the answer?

I think cows pollute more than my car ever will. Do I feel guilty when I order a steak or burger? No. How about all those hippies driving around those old beaters because that's all they can afford....yet they have all the "save the environment" stickers covering their trunks. But then again, they are vegetarians

Just the other day, I saw a huge 80's Suburban with black smoke coming out of the tailpipes with the famous Northern California sticker "Keep Tahoe Blue".

Who's kidding who?

This thread should be under the general discussion area IMO. It's gonna get way off topic

I dont rally have a problem with the exhaust fumes. What I do is I turn the AC/heat to recirculate the air inside the cabin. When it does pull in air from outside, I smell the exhaust fumes which I dont let happen.

I didn't have cats on my Spec V for a long time, and the smell did bother me after awhile. People would always ask me why my car smelled funny, or at all.

My other fear was that a cop behind me or next to me at a stop would notice it and know what it was. I was so relieved the day that the high flow cat arrived.

Anyone have high flow cats that dont take away from the natural sound of a good cat back ie. nismo. Nismo actually has a nice loud sound with a test pipe; but you can barely hear it with the stock exhaust.
So is there a high flow cat back that wont mellow out the after market exhaust.

Yea, had the midpipe on the RX7 for a good year or so and it always smelled, but I never noticed really. I don't really like all the standards set forth by the EPA and DOT to make it illegal for you to take emissions devices off your car. I mean don't get me wrong, all stock cars should have them cause 90% of people won't take anything off them, but for the rest of us who want more power, they should let us. This is a long lost dream I have though I know, as that will never happen.

I've got the Kinetix hi-flow cats, along with DC headers and a Borla true dual cat back system. The sound is great, and no rasp.

Honestly, I would feel guilty about using test pipes, but to each their own.

On Big Block engines I have noticed that the less back pressure, the better.

On smaller engines I have noticed a loss of power with less exhaust restriction.

What is your experience with the -Z- ??

Damn, I wish we had the Z's engineers chiming in.

My Dad (deceased) worked with ALL the engineers at Ford.

I guess it's trial and error with the -Z-.

I was just about to touch upon this. Cars contribute a very, very small percentage to our pollution problem. I forget the exact statistic, but it was something like, "A factory adds more pollutants to the air in a single year than every car in the state." It was an article about diesel engines and their inherent pros/cons. Cars, in general, contribute to maybe 2% of the problem.

(If somebody has the exact statistic, please post!

I think the free-flowing exaust principal is the same with the Z.

The only thing is that if you don't adjust the a/f then you can lose power.

Our cars just require tuning to realize the power of a freeflowing exaust.

LOL, I've never thought twice about running cats. It doesnt smell bad, only way it gets pretty strong is if I let the car idle stopped and stand at the exhaust end. I wipe my own ***, so I consider myself rugged enough to run my car catless.

not to be a jerk, but if you're that concerned about the environment, move to pittsburgh ad become amish...
like they said, the amount of pollutants a car adds is insignificant by comparison to factories and refineries

It's all about horsepower. And, if I can **** off as many middle-aged SUV driving pansies as possible in a single day I am happy. Thank you Tanabe exhaust and Stillen Test Pipes!

(Yes, I have rage issues)

I enjoy having no cats. The only downside is the rasp but then again if it makes my car faster, why not? I'm interested in how the car will sound once I install the headers, but honestly the lack of cats is and will never be a problem for me. After all, shooting a few flames once in awhile never hurt anyone. haha.

I tried the test pipes and I dont worry about the pollution but i wasn't all to happy with the smell. My Z is mostly a daily driver and often with some stop and go traffic. When driving, you dont notice it, but if you stop, it catches up and seems to sink right into the car and its not something i wanted to smell. I'm going to be getting some hf cats myself.
