Default Installing K&N Filter - question

It seems to like to pop out of the stock filter-bracket. I noticed it says on the instructions to hold it in place with your index fingers as you drop it into the airbox. So I did that, and now I can get the bracket to push in under the holder tabs on the airbox, but the little latches are NO WHERE close to latching over the top of the airbox. I'm pushing really hard and they still dont get close enough. Am I doing something wrong, or should I just be pushing as hard as possible?

Nevermind - tried it again and just had to stuff it down a bit before I tried to latch it - the top of the filter was getting in between the seams of the bracket and airbox.

Did you use the rubber peices(gaskets) that came with it, helps the filter stay in place.

Yep - still a slippery little bastard, but in the end it worked just fine.

Exact same thing happened with mine. I just had to fiddle around with it to get it to go. I don't know that I noticed any big difference in performance to be honest with you. Sounds a little louder I suppose. Drive around a little and let us know what you think.

Default R U HIPAA compliant?

Doc, did you apply zaino to the filter, and inside of the air intake so the air would flow with less resistance.

No, but thanks for Zaino use number 4386. I'll put it right before Zaino-ing the antenna for incredible radio reception and just after applying Zaino to your CD's for crisp, clear sound quality!

Does anyone think the K&N filter is measurably better than stock?

K&N has changed part numbers and design. The one for the Z is the same partnumber but no longer requires the rubber gaskets.

imo, K&N is better than stock, since you can wash them and reuse them.. Make sure you buy the cleaning kit, also, don't oil it too much, extra oil may come off and get on the MAF sensor.

Theres been a lotta gripe over the oil and the MAF sensor. Just dont overoil it and a good thing would be to wait overnight until you install it....maybe put it in front of a fan all night that way any excess oil will have dried a bit.
