I'm a little undecided about installing myself. While I have installed my own plenum, intake, four wheel big brake kit, cat-back exhaust and Nismo suspension, I am a little concerned about accessibility to the exhaust manifold area. The other stuff could all be done on jack stands, but I am concerned that the install would really be a PITA if I had to do it all lying on my back.

It is a PITA, a VERY BIG PITA!!
It can be done with jack stands and will take at least 2 8 hour days if you do it alone.
I've done them before on other cars with more room in the engine compartment than the 350z and it was still hard. Shop around and see what kind of deal that you can get. Anything between $300 and $400 is worth it. Besides, if they scratch those nice headers, you can them to pay for a repaint.

i have been quoted 400 and i usually do my own bolt-ons too, but i don't blame you for being reluctant on the install either....do i, or dont 'i???? for sure though, i wouldn't let those nice headers sit around for too long

Iwent with Nismo becuase my experience has been that Nismo parts are among the best in quality and they have the best fitment of any products. Really....there are only two proven choices for headers....Nismo and Crawford, and while the crawford have been shown to give better gains with upgraded cams, the gains without cams are comparable with Nismo. The Nismo are also easier to install. Since I have no intention of upgrading my cams, I went with the slightly less expensive and easier to install Nismo units. Plus, for me, having my Nissan dealership who I am very friendly with only 1.5 miles from my home is a big plus. They have a couple of very knowledgeable master techs who do all the work on my car.

I just got my car back tonight from having my Crawford headers coated with Jet-Hot 2000 installed. My dealer did the work. They are really good about installing any type of mod. I also got my new NR replacement guages in Aluminum installed. I agree with you about the quality of Nismo parts and the ease of installation. My service manager told me that the Crawford headers were more difficult to install than the Nismo ones are since they have now installed both. He also said that they had to relocate some of the wiring mounts to keep the wires from being to close to the headers. That is one reason I got the headers Jet-Hot coated. However, I disagree with you about the power the headers make. No question that the Nismo and Crawfords have shown the best gains, but I believe that the Crawford headers make more power whether or not you upgrade your cams. That plus the fact that I have the other Crawford goodies is why I went with the Crawfords.
