Default kinetix vs plenum spacer

im about to get a new plenum, and i dont know which to do. the plenum spacer is a nice increase for the money, but the kinetix also has a huge increase in power, but also much more. is upgrading to the kinetix ssv worth the extra $500? how much is it exactly.. what kinda gains did NA people get?

Kinetix SSV = $750+ = maybe 8-10whp across the board
Motordyne 1/2" spacer = $200 = 5-6whp acorss the board

it's a little too early to tell about the Kinetix SSV since most people are just now getting it and stating to do independent dyno's

right now i am just not sold on the Kinetix SSV for NA engines....not for the price. it was dropped to say....$500 i might buy one

I'd wait for the dyno's to see what happens first.

for N/A .. bang for buck is going to be the spacer IMHO.

FI is a complete other story.

if you stacked 2 plenum spacers on top of each other, ya think that'll give you an even bigger increae? maybe those guys from AAM can help me out here?

Uh, just like the exhaust, there is a point at which you cannot make intake flow any more efficient. Just like exhaust, bigger isn't always better.

I would say go with a plenum spacer. The Kinetix SSV just failed all around IMHO.

This link has some of the dyno sheets from the Sport Z Plenum shootout.
http://www.motordyneengineering.com/dynos.asp

It does not look like http://www.sportzmagazine.com/ post articles online though. The K in the dynos are Kinetix V4 and the C is the Crawford, MD is MotorDyne.

Hope this helps,
Chris

Thanks!!

The MD 5/16 seems better than the Kenetix v4 in every way for $30.00 Less. Not bad at all. I have always been a little nervous about installing a spacer with the potential for engine damage if a bolt snaps. But, If those cases have only been isolated to a few people not following directions, I would probably go for it as my next mod.

Is $265 the best price out there for the 5/16 Basic Spacer?

You might check the classifieds here, I see them for sale occasionally.

As far as the install goes, it's not hard and the instructions are good, just don't drop anything down the intake and you will be fine.

The latest kits with the plastic pillar spacers and pre-attached gaskets are even better easier to install than the earlier ones.

Keep in mind that the shootout used the (now obsolete) kinetix v4, which is made of a different composite and has less volume than the v5

There has been no shootout comparing the V5 with the other plenums/spacers

Does anyone have any independent dynos of this yet, from the text it certainly seems improved from the old units.
