jason,

did you mean that the AFE had a smaller inside ID than stock? If so, wouldn't that throw off the final A/F since the MAF is depending on the stock tube diameter? did you check any A/F during any of the runs? wouldn't a smaller tube richen it up?

Yes, it has a smaller inner diamater then stock...

If I didnt make that clear please tell me where so I can edit...

Exclamation AFE has some work to do if they want to remain a viable alternative

So AFE needs to do the following:

Fix the 2 design issues that Jason found and I personally cited way back at at the beginning of this thread
1 - The contact with the AC line by the heatshield box
2 - Fix the fact that the rear edge is too high and does not allow proper
hood closure

Next they have to change their advertised gains. This test was controlled and acccurate. They can no longer debate the results.

Lastly, drop the price to where the competive products are. This should cost no more than an Injen or AEM, etc.

I don't know if Jason has shared the results with Grasshopper at AFE yet or not. But I would imagine that when he does that AFE should come on here and annnounce a plan similar to what I outline.

The product does make power in line with other products. It uses quality materials and does have some innovative design features. Fix it up and price it right and there is no reason not to consider them as a viable Intake option.

Now lets see if they come forward and do the right thing.

AFE the ball is in your court.

I have a theory...

Im going to do my best to test it, but this is something that struck me odd and it clicked in my mind when doing these dyno's...

The gains we have for most of these intakes have been on 2003 or early 2004 350z's...

This car was a 2004.5...

We have an employee with a 2005 350Z (non-track) and with the install of his intake system he said he felt like his Z was slower, but when he put his stock back on it felt faster. He put the intake back on because he liked the sound.

When we were dyno testing the AFE we tested a different intake... On the 04.5 it made 8HP LESS then the baseline (lost power). We then dyno'ed the AFE and it made the power stated in my write up... Afterwards I put the other intake back on to see if something was wrong... still the same 8HP Loss...

My self and others have tested this intake on 2003's and early 2004's and it made a consistant HP gain...

But recently alot of people have been claiming their intake wasnt making their car feel faster just adding sound. Just not feeling a HP gain...

So, my next mission is... To figure out if there is something going on between the 04.5 and up ECU that makes more RWHP on the stock air box then the previous intake modifications...

The problems with figuring this out though... Finding Z's of different years with similar mileage / care taken for it...

I am still boggled by the results from the dyno session, the AFE gained while this other one did not is really making me loose sleep... simply because this intake Gains on 2003-2004.0!

Anyone with 2004.5 and up pre-post dyno's with various mods? NO FI or ECU mods please...
