Any object that can enter the girll area (leaves, bugs and etc can go straight up to the air cleaner. You can eliminate most of this by securing a screen behind the grill. I used nylon patio screening hot glued at the top and sides to catch the night time bugs and trash. This had no affect on tempeture, hardly noticable and just spray off with a hose when washing your car. Now use the best filter your pocket can afford.
