Default Injen Technology - RD1985

I would first like to introduce myself to forum members of my350Z.com. I am Phillip Phong, Operations Manager for Injen Technology.

I see that there is a lot of debate on intake systems about what's good and what's not, and who is better or worst. I'm not here to sell. I'm just here to inform you guys about Injen and our new Race Division intake system for the 2003 350Z.

Injen Technology is a U.S. based company that manufactures every intake system in-house. Our manufacturing, assembly, shipping, sales, and R&D is all housed within 2 buildings directly across the street from each other. This way we can offer the best fitting and performing intake, top notch quality control and fill orders to our distributors quickly.

Our R&D department designs the intake systems on our very own in-ground Dynojet. We dyno test every change that is made to a prototype to get the best gains. This insures the customer that every intake designed by Injen will perform to or exceed expectations.

Now on to the 350Z............
The 350Z intake system is manufactured out of 3.00" [inch]mandrel bent 6061 aluminum polished to a high luster in-house. We tig-weld all brackets and CNC adapters for strength, fitment, and a show quality part. The intake system includes all hoses and clamps, CNC'd MAF adapter, neophrene vibration mounts and bushings, and a 3.50" Injen filter with built-in velocity stack.

We also provide a custom molded silicone wrapped tube to extend into the front bumper. We designed this especially for the 350Z so it will fit better and will not damaged any factory parts near the headlight due to vibration. Injen Technology spares no expense on vehicle specific parts. We would rather make a new part rather than throw something together which we may already use for another vehicle. This also includes the stainless steel exhaust manifold cover which sits directly under the stock intake system.

Lastly, Injen Technology has developed the RD1985 [350Z cold air intake] so it can be used as a short ram intake as well. By removing the custom silicone hose, the 3.50" Injen filter will bolt up to the MAF adapter.

If you have any questions, please feel free to email info@injen.com.

Best regards,

Phillip Phong

Phillip, I have heard positive things about Ingen products so I'm gonna ask a question and would like an honest answer.

Does your intake have any of the stalling issues that many, including myself, have experienced with (name withheld) POP chargers?

I hope you understand why I ask. The last thing I want to do is waste another $100+ on similar results.

Also, any insight as to why the stalling issues may have occured. Many theories have been posted on this site (most are reasonable) but I would expect you to have a higher level of information based on the work of your company.

Thanks

HEY! I remember you from clubRSX.com you are always very helpful, and one of the reasons I lean towards injen.

any chances you might do a shootout of your own product vs AEM as you did with the RSX?

Id also like to hear about the stalling issue, to my understanding the cause was chalked up to the removal of the MAF in the POP system. but you say you kept it in?

also how much work is it to change from cold air to short ram? is it like a quick in and out procedure, or a full disassembly that takes time?

Phillip

What HP improvements have you measured with your CAI?

Can you post the dyno charts?

What is your test procedure? Do you reassemble the car in its entirety prior to testing?

I know its a mass air flow sensor, thats about it. I do not have a pop charger intake, nor do I know much about it. but I remember a few people saying it was missing a location for it... or perhaps I should cut back on my alcohol intake?

perhaps I should do that anyway. *shrug*

I do remember a bunch of people having a theory on why it stalled tho...

Can't this stalling be fixed much like the Z32's fixed theirs? I think all that happened early on with that is that 1/4 of it was covered to prevent turbulent airflow.

Hmm..like how they have a shield for the manifold... However, I know that Injen has been known to have intakes that caused more problems on average than AEM intakes...Have ordered an AEM one, hope to see how they go..

by reading th factory manual the problem with stalling may be simply fix by performing " Idle air volume learning" as outline on page EC-51 of the factory manual. If you would like detailed instruction I can give them to you per the manual. not too difficult and no tools required. it will correct idle speed issues (idle should be 650rpm+/- 50 )

Test dyno for the 350Z is on the "testing" web page of the Injen website.

Shouldn't our cars be dyno'd in 5th gear, since that is our 1:1 gear?

The dyno chart lists the dyno as a 3rd gear pull.

Also, is the wheel size a misprint, or did the car have aftermarket wheels/tires?

Thank you for the info, Phillip.

As of this date, our daily driven prototype 350Z has not had any problems regarding stalling. The intake system has been on that vehicle for approximately 6 months. We have supplied NissanPerformanceMag.com and Nissan dealerships with our intake system with no complaints.

The intake system for the 350Z, part # RD1985, is available now and should be at authorized Injen retailers. Please check our website for our dealer listing, www.injen.com/dealers.html.

The Z has barely been in the U.S. for 4 months. You would need a short time at least for R&D too, but you have had it on your car for 6 months? How is that? I doubt Nissan gave you one of their prototypes.
