Wut is the most exotic sounding exhaust 4 a Z?
I'd go with headers (optional) high flow cats, a y-pipe and custom plumbing from the y-pipe back. From the y-pipe, I'd go with either 2 1/2" or 3" piping (preferably mandrel bent) all the way back to the exhaust cut-outs in the bumper.
I feel that this would be an awesome set-up if you had a big glass pack welded into the pipe that starts behind the y-pipe. I would have the pipes configured to exit centered under the OEM cut-outs in the rear bumper. In other words, have the pipes extend out to the OEM location but with no tips and no muffler. Of course, you wouldn't need to have both pipes extended to the cut-outs but I would take that route as it would look more stealth and clean. I would also get some high temperature flat black Rustoleum (barbecue paint) and paint the part of the pipes that would be visible from the rear of the vehicle.
This would be a really cool sleeper set-up. People would be thrown off by the tame looking 2 1/2" flat black exit pipes coupled with the diabolical idle/exhaust note. The h.f. cats and glasspack would effectively cancel out the rasp leaving you with a VQ motor that sounds plenty pissed off when it clears its throat. I believe this configuration qualifies as being exotic because if I pulled up to a stoplight in my area, I can guarantee that many Lambo and Ferrari owners would take notice. They wouldn't be shaking in their boots but they might momentarilly turn down their stereos to get a better listen. Car dudes would generally think that at the very least, you were running cams or a built motor.

RS*R is great, but the downside for a lot of folks is the volume. Definitely makes the Z sound more exotic though, and its a blast at the track! With silencers it's slightly louder than stock but it loses its deep rumble.

Mine cost under $600 and it's a true dual from the cat back and the tips look tastefully stock......and everyone says it sounds incredible. If you don't like the aftermarket ones you can always check out a custom exhaust shop....I'm happy I did. BTW personally from all of the aftermarket exhausts I've heard on Z's I think the Injen sounds the best.

Hi guys,
I've read as many of the zorst threads as I can, but I'm starting to go
I am the proud owner of the Invidia N1
without mufflers
I'll be doing my first track day in a few weeks
, and the limit at the track is 97db. Any idea what the N1 is?

a whole lot louder than that. My dad is the manager of a dealership and he just brought a 03' db z home and its got the invidia n1's on it and its loud as sh**. I wish my dad liked how they look, cuz I would definately get em. I'll check into a custom exhaust. I've done custom on my previous cars and they were nice as hell. We'll see. Thanx everyone.
amuse r1 if you can afford it... hands down, no questions asked
other than that, nismo probably preserves the stock sound the most
but I agree with lowj... something custom will let you achieve what you want while keeping the costs low. I for one have an injen SES (straight-tips) that I disliked the sound of, so I installed an x-pipe in place of the resonators... I couldn't be happier now. It's basically a *much* louder, beefier stock exhaust system.

Oooops!
Looks like I'll be watching then
Most of the tracks in England have lower limits than 97 db, I thought I might of been in with a chance
Thanks anyway

Though i bet it sounds even better in real life, really hard to fully capture an engine sound in a clip, especially in-car./Roger
Which is louder, the Nismo, fuji, or blitz (all with Ypipe and HF cats)? I think all these sound exotic without the expensive costs of the Amuse. I think the only true dual I am really interested in is the HKS ti. From sound clips it sounds pretty close to the nismo, but a little more aggressive...I could be wrong though since I have never heard it in person..only the nismo. Which would still sound most exotic out of the Nismo, Fuji, Blitz, or HKS after a Ypipe/HF cat setup...and possibly turbo's down the road?
