Default Header installation

Is it difficult to install a set of headers on a 350z? Can it be done in a garage with basic mechanics tools and jackstands or ramps? Obviously a lift would be ideal, but is it really necessary?

Yes, it can be done with just that. But you forgot one thing, patience. It's not exrememly difficult, but I think it's harder than installing a single turbo kit. Actually, installing the headers made it harder to install the turbo kit.

is it wise to install just the headers w/o any other modifications to the factory engine -> exhaust setup?

i.e. has anyone ever run into any mechanical problems just installing the headers?

i did the header install 2 weekends ago on my G.......by myself with the car on ramps, and a few borrowed tools....you will need a bunch of different length extensions and various lengths of box end wrenches (the header bolts are 14mm) will help.....each bolt was a different challenge on what combination of tools to use.....it took the entire weekend.....about 24 hours (i started friday night and removed the engine cover, intake, etc......) but i enjoyed the work and was prepared for the long haul.....i am glad i did the install myself, i was careful and didnt damage anything.........if you are not patient like eckzlnt said, forget it and pay someone.....

i'm doing it myself right now, started last night at 5pm, had the stock manifolds off by 10:30pm, and it would have been much fast with an air ratchet, but oh well. Today I will finish it up, i'll let you know how it goes...I'd recommend a swival and a long swivaling ratchet, its been a lot easer to break things loose.

I talked to a guy at a car show who did them himself on jack stands. Took him the whole weekend plus a lot of busted knuckles. I guess that's better than $750 labor for a shop to do it.

took me about 9hrs getting th factory manifolds off and headers on was the hardest part. 14mm rachecting wrench helped al lot after a rush to sears at the last minute in my friends car.

Anyone running the Megan Racing headers or have heard of the quality/performance? I looked a set over at Ultimate Z in streamwood, and they were a similar design and quality to the Stillen product, and cheaper too! :-D. Anyone use them? How about suggestions on highflow cats?
