Default Nismo exhaust or Pop charger?

I'm not exactly sure what I want to do. Though I am leaning in the direction of the exhaust.

The Pop Charger is an inexpensive mod and gives a boost to the stock exhaust and engine sound but seems like a cheesy, ricer, snake oil type mod to me. But then again I guess the same could be said for an exhaust too egh. I am not convinced that it DOES NOT suck in hot or hotter air. The only interest I have in a Pop Charger is for the sound and nothing else. But like I said it's a lot cheaper than an $1,000 exhaust. Cheaper is good too.

The Nismo costs a lot more obvisouly but it isn't as gimicky or cheesy of a mod IMO. It's a more honest approach to gaining a nicer sound, IMO. Damn it, I sound like a beer comercial errrr.

Which would you choose to gain some nicer sound at higher RPM's a pop charger with stock pipes (save lots of money) or a Nismo exhaust and keep the stock intake and replace the filter with a K&N filter when the original one is shot?

I also love the looks of the Nismo. A LOT!

Damn it sounds like I am asking for somebody to tell me to buy the Nismo, lol.

I haven't heard the Nismo in person, just sound clips on the net and I am affraid it might sound like a riced out Tiburon or something in person, which I don't want, though the clips I've heard would lead me to believe that it does not sound riced out at all but actually quite nice but then again they are just sound clips, so it;s tuff to know for sure.

Does anybody in the Bay Area have a Nismo on their car with no intake mods done to it, so I can hear what it sounds like? LOL seriously.

So just tell me to buy the Nismo:-D No really what would you do?

Please keep in mind I am not bashing anybody who uses a Pop Charger, it's just my thoughts, that's all. I like the fact that it is a cheap mod.

Forget the Nismo!!

Get the Pop Charger.

But:

For probably less money than the Nismo you could get the Borla True Duel exhaust and the Pop Charger!!! That's the set up I have and it is a great match and I love the sound. IMHO the Borla sounds much better than the Nismo. I did before and after dyno comparison tests the day of my Borla install and gained 10.6 whp at peak and gained hp everywhere, same with torque with over 6ft lbs. I really like the looks of the Borla exhaust tips. The large diameter of the tips makes a statement and they just look good. The Borla weighs in at 45 lbs. I think much lighter than the Nismo. The Borla was designed so that you can easily install it yourself, if you would like to save some money on that.
But anyway it just sounds good.
Their are many more exhaust choices out there than the Nismo. Why spend a lot more when you can get more for the money?

EDIT:

Well hold on Chad!!! I just noticed you are from the Bay Area.

Their is a Z car specialty shop in Santa Clara, Scott Performance. They custom build their own exhaust systems and they are the best sounding I have ever heard for the 350Z. And they are a lot less $ than the Nismo. You can go over to SP and listen to one anytime. Call and ask for Ted. He would take care of that for you. Tell him Mike from my350z told you about it. It's worth a listen.
www.scottperformance.us

Or you and I can hook up and you can listen to mine. I'll let you drive, I mean hell, everyone else is going to get to drive it.........oh that reminds me, my Z is going to SP for upgrades on Monday. After that it's going to sound a lot different I would emagine.........a lot better maybe?

I personally would get the popcharger. The nismo exhaust is a waste of money IMO since it is so similar to stock

Nismo exhaust. I've got the exhaust w/ the HKS suction kit and it's just an awesome sound. almost exotic.

This is why I get so confused HA.

For every person that says the Nismo is too close to stock to bother with, there are an equal number (+ or -) of people who will say it sounds sort of loud to LOUD and or exotic, mostly at Higher RPM's.

I've read quite a bit and most seem to agree that the Nismo is close to stock sounding at idle and around town, with a light foot but wails quite nicely at higher RPM's. Also heard that it has a droaning sound cruising at freeway speeds. Lucky for me I don't do a lot of freeway droaning, because I would rather tear up backroads. Blame that one on my Sportbike background:-D

Aside from the droanng sound on the freeways, I like the idea that it is relativly quiet around town and only loud when you want it to be.

Everbodies opinion, preferances, tastes, likes, dislikes on stuff is different, so it may end up just being one of those things were I will just go with one mod or the other and if it's not what I hoped for, then sell it to somebody who wants that mod and try the other mod.

Several months ago I was thinking about the Borla exhaust as well as the Stillen.

I don't like the looks of the Stillen, the added weight or the price.

Don't care too much for the Nismo's price either but since I love the way it looks, well ya only live once right.

I liked the Borla because it was cheaper than the other two. I heard that the Borla alone, is very quite, plus it has a ton of pieces to it that can and have come loose. Any exhaust can work itself loose sure, but there are so many pieces to the Borla that fitting them so they don't rattle, rub, leak, etc. could be a pain. I heard a couple of clips and was not impressed at all with the Borla.

I like the Nismo for looks, simplicity, quiet at idle, supposidly nice sounding at WOT, plus Nissan can't b!tch about any warranty issues in regards to it because it's their own product.

I may as well give up. I will probably just get the Nismo exhaust and leave the intake stock. If I end up not liking it, somebody in here will get a like new Nismo exhaust for a couple hundred less than what I paid LOL. I will have learned a lesson (possibly) and gave somebody a good deal on a pipe:-P

I just love the looks of the Nismo. I didn't think I would ever say that about a car exhaust but WOW, me like it. Hopefully it will be close to what I am after.

If not, oh well.

Actually my bad, the Borla doesn't have that many parts to it, unless you get the true dual cat back model. I think I got Borla's cheaper catback system mixed up with the other model, which has all the pieces, but it's still too quiet anyway:-D

It's a Catback system, so it's not an issue with smog.

Noise perhaps but not smog.

Nismo exhaust doesnt look like stock. If youve seen it in person it is completely different it just has the same design type. The collector is a highly reflective polish and everyone will notice it in the day since its really freakin bright in the sun.
Also the tips are angled to flow with the bumper and have nismo laser engraved on the side. The build quality of the nismo is perfect also with 3 pieces (not 20 like the borla). Nismo has a good sound, is street legal, adds good power throughout the power band and wont lower resale like the borla. I wouldnt buy a pop charger unless I had an engine bay cooling mod like a vented hgood or varis air duct. In texas with 100 heat the z can heat soak pretty badly. Oh yeah the nismo exhaust also drops 9lbs off stock which is a nice bonus. I will take pics for you if you want them.

Yes pics would be great thanks.

I think the Nismo looks classy and clean.

Chad68, I think when it's all said and done, you will end up with both. The combo of intake and exhaust is perfect.

If you are interested, come to the TI meet on the 18th and you can see and hear just about every system around, there should be 70 some odd Zs. I'll even give you a ride in my Injen CAI/Nismo Exhaust car, it sounds sweet.

I agree with Chris. I'd definitely go to the RR/T.I. Meet on the 18th. It will give you a perfect opportunity to check out other memeber's setup & also get a more accurate description of what each exhaust sounds like since you are physically there to hear it as opposed to someone just telling you it sounds good.

Thanks man. Should be fun, hopefully I will be there.

Can anybody tell me what the differeance is between the Nismo and the 'Nismo Weldina'

I heard clips for the Weldina and the sound was raspy, unlike the Standard(???) Nismo. In the pics they look the same but sound way different. Is the Weldina a full header and cat back system and that's why it sounded raspy?

Here is a link to the two different Nismo exhausts that I was talking about.

They look the same but sound totaly different.

I hate the way the Weldina one sounds but love the other one.

Hmmm. Whats the story on this?
